Mitsubishi 3000GT Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Mitsubishi 3000GT is the 1990s Japanese grand tourer that put Mitsubishi on the performance map alongside the Toyota Supra Mk4 and the Nissan 300ZX. Element Wheels measures fitment on the 3000GT across the 1991-1999 production run. The 3000GT is discontinued, so the year range on this hub is closed. The lineup splits into two distinct fitment families. The base 3000GT (sometimes called the SL trim) is a front wheel drive grand tourer with the base brake package. The 3000GT VR-4 is the flagship trim: twin-turbo 3.0L V6, all wheel drive, four wheel steering, and a noticeably larger factory front brake than the base car. Every 3000GT runs the same bolt math: 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial), 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lugs. The VR-4 and the base 3000GT do not share the same fitment box because the VR-4 has a wider track, lower factory offset window, and a bigger front brake. The Dodge Stealth (1991-1996) is the same chassis under a different badge: an actual rebadge built on the 3000GT platform, with the same bolt pattern, hub bore, and (on the Stealth R/T Turbo) the same AWD twin-turbo drivetrain as the VR-4.

Find Your Mitsubishi 3000GT Trim

Pick your trim to see wheels and rims that fit your specific 3000GT. The 5x114.3 / 67.1mm CB bolt pattern is consistent across both trims. What changes between the base 3000GT and the VR-4 is the factory offset window (the VR-4 sits lower offset because of the wider track), the factory front brake (larger on the VR-4), and the AWD geometry on the VR-4.

The Mitsubishi 3000GT Bolt Pattern

Every Mitsubishi 3000GT from 1991 through 1999 runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 with 5 lugs. The pattern is consistent across the base 3000GT and the VR-4. A wheel built for a base 3000GT will bolt onto a VR-4 at the lug-hole level, but the practical fitment is different because the VR-4 has a wider track, a lower factory offset window, and a larger front brake. The wheels share a bolt pattern. The actual fitment box is generationally distinct.

The Dodge Stealth (1991-1996) is the same chassis under a different badge. Mitsubishi built the 3000GT and Dodge sold it as the Stealth in the US through Chrysler. The Stealth shares the 3000GT bolt pattern, hub bore, thread pitch, and (on the Stealth R/T Turbo) the same AWD twin-turbo drivetrain as the VR-4. A 3000GT wheel will bolt onto a Stealth and a Stealth wheel will bolt onto a 3000GT.

A cross pattern caution that applies to every 5x114.3 platform: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as the 5x115 pattern used on Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and similar American sedans. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart and are not interchangeable. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers only to 5x114.3 (because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly). Calling 5x115 "5x4.5" is wrong and forcing a 5x115 wheel onto a 5x114.3 hub puts the stud loading off center, which is a safety issue. Stick to wheels listed for 5x114.3 specifically. Compare across the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup at our Mitsubishi wheels and rims hub.

Why the VR-4 Fits Differently from the Base 3000GT

The base 3000GT (front wheel drive grand tourer) and the 3000GT VR-4 (twin-turbo AWD flagship) are mechanically and dimensionally distinct cars under the same bodyshell. The VR-4 was Mitsubishi's halo: 3.0L twin-turbo V6, six-speed Getrag manual on the later cars, full time AWD, four wheel steering. To make all of that work in a 1990s Japanese GT body, Mitsubishi widened the track on the VR-4, lowered the factory offset window, and fitted a larger front brake. That is normal on a high-performance trim of a performance car. The front axle does the majority of the braking work on a heavy AWD GT, and the front brake is scaled accordingly. The larger VR-4 front caliper takes more inner clearance behind the wheel face than a base 3000GT brake, which factors into wheel selection.

Both the base 3000GT and the VR-4 ship with the option for staggered fitment from the factory (wider rear wheel and tire than front). Aftermarket builds on either trim can run square or staggered. The VR-4 in particular is a popular staggered build because the wider rear visually balances the chassis and matches how Mitsubishi engineered the AWD power delivery. The base 3000GT is more flexible: customers run square setups for a cleaner front wheel drive look, or staggered for the GT stance.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Mitsubishi 3000GT

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the 3000GT lineup:

  • 3000GT Base (1991-1999), front wheel drive: 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 8-9 inch front, 9-10 inch rear. Optional staggered. Base brake package.
  • 3000GT VR-4 (1991-1999), twin-turbo AWD: 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 8-9 inch front, 9-10 inch rear. Optional staggered. Larger factory front brake than base. Wider track and lower factory offset window than base.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific 3000GT (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the 3000GT wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation, especially on the VR-4 where the brake clearance is tighter and the offset window is narrower than the base car.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mitsubishi 3000GT Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the Mitsubishi 3000GT across the base front wheel drive trim and the VR-4 twin-turbo AWD flagship. For the 3000GT that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, front brake caliper height (base vs the larger VR-4 brake, measured separately), hub bore confirmation at 67.1mm, lug seat depth, and the AWD width ratio on the VR-4. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is why we publish a separate offset window for the VR-4 even though the base bolt math is identical to the base 3000GT.

Mitsubishi 3000GT Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Mitsubishi 3000GT?

Every Mitsubishi 3000GT from 1991 through 1999 runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 with 5 lugs. The pattern is consistent across the base 3000GT and the VR-4.

Do base 3000GT and VR-4 wheels interchange?

The bolt math is the same (5x114.3 / 67.1mm / M12x1.5), but the practical fitment differs. The VR-4 has a wider track, a lower factory offset window, and a larger front brake than the base 3000GT. A base 3000GT wheel on a VR-4 will pull in tighter than the VR-4 chassis wants and may not clear the larger VR-4 front caliper at the inner barrel. A VR-4 wheel on a base 3000GT will stick further out than the base chassis wants. We measure and publish the two trims as separate fitment families.

Will Dodge Stealth wheels fit a Mitsubishi 3000GT?

Yes. The Dodge Stealth (1991-1996) is the same chassis as the 3000GT under a different badge. Mitsubishi built the 3000GT and Dodge sold it as the Stealth in the US. The bolt pattern, hub bore, thread pitch, and overall chassis dimensions are the same. The Stealth R/T Turbo is the Stealth equivalent of the VR-4 (twin-turbo AWD), with the same drivetrain. Match trim to trim: a base Stealth wheel pairs to the base 3000GT, an R/T Turbo wheel pairs to the VR-4.

Can I run staggered wheels on a 3000GT?

Yes, both the base 3000GT and the VR-4 support optional staggered fitment from the factory. Mitsubishi engineered the chassis around the option to run a wider rear wheel and tire than front, which is part of the 1990s GT styling. The VR-4 in particular is a popular staggered build because the wider rear visually balances the chassis and matches how the AWD drivetrain puts down power. Square setups are also fine if you prefer that look. Both square and staggered fit in our measured window.

What size wheels came on the 3000GT from the factory?

The base 3000GT and 3000GT SL shipped on 16 inch and 17 inch factory wheels depending on year and trim, with the SL getting the larger size. The VR-4 shipped on 17 inch and 18 inch factory wheels with a staggered setup on the later cars (wider rear than front). Aftermarket 3000GT builds typically step up to 18 or 19 inch for a more modern stance, with 20 inch sometimes used for show builds.

What is the front brake on a 3000GT VR-4?

The VR-4 ships with a larger factory front brake than the base 3000GT. That is normal on a high-performance trim of a sports car. The front axle does the majority of the braking work, and Mitsubishi scaled the front rotor and caliper accordingly on the twin-turbo AWD flagship. The larger front brake takes more inner clearance behind the front wheel face than a base 3000GT brake, which is exactly why our measured aftermarket fitment window on the VR-4 is published separately. Front brake larger than rear is the norm on a performance GT and the VR-4 is no exception.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Mitsubishi 3000GT?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 67.1mm. The 67.1mm hub bore is consistent across the base 3000GT and the VR-4. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific 3000GT?

Three steps. Confirm whether you have a base 3000GT or a VR-4 (the VR-4 has a wider track, lower factory offset window, and a larger front brake). Decide on square or staggered fitment for your look. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific 3000GT and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. The VR-4 specifically benefits from a free fitment consultation because the offset window is narrower than the base car. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
