Mitsubishi Eclipse Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is the front and all wheel drive sport coupe that ran from 1990 through 2012 across four generations. Element Wheels measures fitment on the Eclipse from the 2G forward, which is where our catalog window starts. The 2G Eclipse (1995-1999), including the GS-T and GSX turbo trims, and the 3G Eclipse (2000-2005) share the same wheel interface in our catalog: 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial) with a 67.1mm hub bore, an M12x1.5 thread, and 5 lugs. The 4G Eclipse (2006-2012) runs the same 5x114.3 / 67.1mm interface as well, with a slightly different aftermarket diameter and width window because the chassis was wider. The Eclipse coupe is discontinued: the final 4G left production in 2012, and the year range on this hub is closed at 1995 through 2012. The Eclipse Cross SUV (2018 and up) wears the Eclipse name but it is a different chassis on its own hub page.

A note on the 1G Eclipse (1990-1994), the original Diamond Star Motors car: the 1G is not in our measured catalog and we don't publish a fitment window for it on this hub. The 1G used a 5x114.3 bolt pattern on the GS-T and GSX turbo trims, but a 4x114.3 pattern on the non-turbo trims, so the 1G needs a separate fitment conversation. If you have a 1G Eclipse, contact our team directly.

Find Your Mitsubishi Eclipse Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Eclipse coupe. The 5x114.3 / 67.1mm CB bolt pattern is consistent across the 2G, 3G, and 4G Eclipse in our catalog. What changes between generations is the chassis width, the factory wheel size, and the aftermarket window.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Bolt Pattern

Every 2G, 3G, and 4G Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 with 5 lugs across all three generations. The pattern is consistent from the 2G GS-T and GSX turbo cars through the 3G GT and the 4G GS and GT trims. A wheel built for a 2G GS-T will bolt onto a 3G GT and a 4G GT at the lug-hole level. The fitment box (width, offset, brake clearance) is generationally distinct, which is why we publish two separate windows below.

A cross pattern caution that applies to every 5x114.3 platform: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as the 5x115 pattern used on Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and similar American sedans. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart and are not interchangeable. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers only to 5x114.3 (because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly). Calling 5x115 "5x4.5" is wrong and forcing a 5x115 wheel onto a 5x114.3 hub puts the stud loading off center, which is a safety issue. Stick to wheels listed for 5x114.3 specifically. Compare across the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup at our Mitsubishi wheels and rims hub.

Important note on the 1G Eclipse (1990-1994), the original Diamond Star Motors generation: the 1G used a 5x114.3 bolt pattern on the GS-T and GSX turbo trims (the DSM turbo cars), but the non-turbo 1G trims used a 4x114.3 four lug pattern. The 1G is not in our measured catalog. If you have a 1G Eclipse, the lug count alone determines whether your car runs the same 5x114.3 pattern as the rest of the Eclipse lineup or the older 4x114.3 four lug pattern, and either way we recommend a fitment consultation before ordering.

Why the 2G/3G and 4G Eclipse Fit Differently

The 2G Eclipse (1995-1999) was built on the Diamond Star Motors platform shared with the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser. The 2G GS-T was the front wheel drive turbo trim, and the 2G GSX was the all wheel drive turbo trim. The 3G Eclipse (2000-2005) moved to a different platform and lost the AWD GSX option, with the 3G GT becoming the top trim on a front wheel drive layout. The 4G Eclipse (2006-2012) widened the chassis further and ran a larger factory wheel. Across all three generations, the bolt pattern stayed at 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm hub bore, but the chassis width and factory wheel size stepped up at each transition.

The 4G runs the same 5x114.3 / 67.1mm interface as the 2G/3G but on a wider body. A 2G or 3G wheel can bolt onto a 4G at the lug-hole level, but the aftermarket offset window of a 2G GS-T (built for a narrower chassis) will pull the wheel in tight on the 4G, where the body wants more outward stance. A 4G wheel on a 2G or 3G will often stick past the fender because the older chassis is narrower. The bolt pattern crosses, the actual fitment does not.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Mitsubishi Eclipse

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Eclipse coupe lineup:

  • 2G and 3G Eclipse (1995-2005), including GS-T and GSX: 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 6-8 inch. Square fitment.
  • 4G Eclipse (2006-2012): 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 7.5-8.5 inch. Square fitment. Wider chassis than 2G/3G.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Eclipse (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Eclipse wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation, especially if you have a 1G Eclipse or an upgraded brake setup on a 2G GS-T or GSX.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mitsubishi Eclipse Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the 2G, 3G, and 4G Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe. For the Eclipse that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (base brake on the GS and RS, larger brake on the GS-T and GSX turbo trims), hub bore confirmation at 67.1mm, lug seat depth, and turning radius clearance. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is why we publish two separate windows for the Eclipse: the 2G/3G generations and the wider 4G chassis. The 1G Diamond Star Motors car is outside our measured catalog and goes through fitment consultation.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Mitsubishi Eclipse?

Every 2G, 3G, and 4G Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 with 5 lugs. The pattern is consistent from the 2G GS-T and GSX (1995-1999) through the 3G GT (2000-2005) and the 4G GT (2006-2012). The 1G Eclipse (1990-1994) is a different story: the 1G turbo trims used 5x114.3 but the 1G non-turbo trims used a 4x114.3 four lug pattern.

Do 2G GS-T and GSX wheels fit a 3G or 4G Eclipse?

The bolt math is the same (5x114.3 / 67.1mm / M12x1.5) on every 2G, 3G, and 4G Eclipse, so the wheel will bolt on at the lug-hole level. The fitment does not always cross. A 2G GS-T wheel was built for a narrower chassis and will pull in tight on a 4G. A 4G wheel on a 2G or 3G will often stick past the fender because the older chassis is narrower. Bolt pattern crosses, actual fitment does not. We track each generation separately.

What about the 1G Eclipse (1990-1994)?

The 1G is the original Diamond Star Motors Eclipse, built alongside the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser. The 1G GS-T and GSX turbo trims used a 5x114.3 bolt pattern (compatible with the 2G/3G/4G at the lug hole), but the 1G non-turbo trims used a 4x114.3 four lug pattern. The 1G is outside our measured catalog window. If you have a 1G Eclipse, contact our team for a fitment consultation; we will confirm your bolt count and pattern from the VIN before recommending wheels.

Is the Eclipse Cross the same as the Eclipse coupe?

No. The Eclipse Cross (2018 and up) is a small crossover SUV that wears the Eclipse name but is a completely different chassis from the Eclipse coupe. It also runs the 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 67.1mm hub bore, but the wheel diameter, width, and offset windows are different because it is a taller, heavier vehicle. We track them on separate hub pages. If you have an Eclipse Cross, see our Eclipse Cross wheels and rims hub.

Can I run staggered wheels on a Mitsubishi Eclipse?

We do not recommend it. The Eclipse coupe is a front wheel drive car across the 3G and 4G (and the 2G GS, GS-T, RS, and Spyder trims; the 2G GSX is AWD). Front wheel drive cars run square geometry from the factory because the front wheels do both the steering and the power delivery. Running a wider rear than front on a front wheel drive car is a styling choice that does not match how the chassis was engineered. The 2G GSX is AWD and also runs square front and rear. Every Element published Eclipse fitment is square.

What size wheels came on the Eclipse from the factory?

It depends on the generation and trim. The 2G Eclipse (1995-1999) shipped on 15, 16, and 17 inch factory wheels depending on trim, with the GSX turbo getting the larger sizes. The 3G Eclipse (2000-2005) shipped on 16 and 17 inch factory wheels. The 4G Eclipse (2006-2012) shipped on 17 and 18 inch factory wheels depending on trim. Aftermarket runs on the Eclipse commonly stay one inch above factory for visual stance.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Mitsubishi Eclipse?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 67.1mm. The 67.1mm hub bore is consistent across every 2G, 3G, and 4G Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find the right wheels for my specific Eclipse?

Three steps. Confirm your generation by year (2G 1995-1999, 3G 2000-2005, 4G 2006-2012). Confirm your trim, especially if you have a 2G GS-T or GSX turbo with the larger factory brake. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Eclipse and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. If you have a 1G Eclipse, contact us for a fitment consultation. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
