Mitsubishi Galant Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Mitsubishi Galant is the midsize sedan that ran in the U.S. from the early 1970s through 2012. Element Wheels measures fitment on the Galant across three generations in our catalog: the 7th gen Galant (1993-1998), the 8th gen Galant (1999-2003), and the 9th gen Galant (2004-2012). The 7th gen ran a 4 lug 4x114.3 bolt pattern on a 67.1mm hub bore. Mitsubishi moved the Galant to 5 lug 5x114.3 at the 1999 generation change, and 5x114.3 stayed the pattern through the end of U.S. production in 2012. The 67.1mm hub bore is consistent across every Galant row in our catalog and is the long running Mitsubishi platform spec used on the Eclipse, the 3000GT, the Outlander, the Montero, and the Lancer Evolution. The Galant is discontinued. The year range on this hub is closed at 1993 through 2012. Pick the row that matches your generation below.

Find Your Mitsubishi Galant Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Galant. The bolt pattern changes once, at the 1999 generation transition (4x114.3 to 5x114.3). The hub bore stays 67.1mm across every generation in our catalog. Square fitment across all three generations.

The Mitsubishi Galant Bolt Pattern

The Galant bolt pattern changes once across the years in our catalog. The 7th gen Galant (1993-1998) runs 4x114.3 (also written 4x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with 4 lug nuts. The 8th gen (1999-2003) and 9th gen (2004-2012) both run 5x114.3 (5x4.5 imperial) with 5 lug nuts. The hub bore is 67.1mm across every generation, which is the long running Mitsubishi platform centerbore also used on the Eclipse, 3000GT, Outlander, Montero, Lancer Evolution, and the OZ Rally / Ralliart / 9th gen Lancer.

Lug thread is M12x1.5 across every Galant. Important distinction: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as 5x115. The two patterns sit only about 0.7mm apart on the hub circle and look interchangeable on a spec sheet, but running a 5x115 wheel on a 5x114.3 hub stresses the wheel studs and is a safety concern. The 1999-2012 Galant is 5x114.3 specifically. Compare across the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup at our Mitsubishi wheels and rims hub.

Generation Differences Across the Mitsubishi Galant

The 7th gen Galant (1993-1998) is the narrowest of the three generations and runs the smallest aftermarket window: 14 to 18 inch diameter with widths of 5 to 7.5 inch, four lug. The 8th gen Galant (1999-2003) moved to 5 lug and widened the aftermarket window: 15 to 19 inch diameter, 6 to 8 inch widths. The 9th gen Galant (2004-2012) is the widest of the three and runs the most aggressive aftermarket window: 17 to 20 inch diameter, 7.5 to 8.5 inch widths. Brake size stays standard across every generation (Mitsubishi did not offer a Brembo-sized factory brake on the U.S. Galant), so the limiting factor on a Galant aftermarket build is the fender and the chassis width, not caliper clearance.

Galant customers buy custom wheels for looks first. The Galant is a front wheel drive sedan, so square fitment is the move (same diameter and width front and rear). Stagger does not work on a Galant: the rear wheels are unpowered and a wider rear wheel does not help the way it does on a rear wheel drive car. We measure each generation directly so the aftermarket window reflects what actually clears the fender at the right angle, not just what the spec sheet implies.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Mitsubishi Galant Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the Galant directly across the 7th, 8th, and 9th generations. For the Galant that means hub bore confirmation at 67.1mm, clearance from the wheel to the fender on a front wheel drive sedan chassis, gap between the back of the wheel and the front strut, brake caliper height at the standard Mitsubishi spec, lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation at M12x1.5. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull these from manufacturer spec sheets the way most retailers do.

Mitsubishi Galant Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Mitsubishi Galant?

It depends on the generation. The 1993-1998 7th gen Galant is on 4x114.3 with 4 lugs. The 1999-2003 8th gen and 2004-2012 9th gen Galants are both on 5x114.3 with 5 lugs. The hub bore is 67.1mm across every generation, and the lug thread is M12x1.5 across every Galant.

When did the Galant switch from 4 lug to 5 lug?

The 1999 model year, when Mitsubishi moved the Galant from the 7th gen chassis to the 8th gen chassis. Every U.S. Galant from 1999 through the end of production in 2012 runs 5x114.3 with 5 lugs. The 1993-1998 7th gen Galant is the last 4 lug Galant in our catalog.

What is the hub bore on a Mitsubishi Galant?

67.1mm across every generation. The 7th gen (1993-1998), 8th gen (1999-2003), and 9th gen (2004-2012) Galants all run a 67.1mm hub bore, which is the long running Mitsubishi platform centerbore also used on the Eclipse, 3000GT, Outlander, Montero, and the Lancer Evolution. If your aftermarket wheel has a larger centerbore than 67.1mm, hub centric rings step down to the correct fit. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Can I run a staggered setup on a Galant?

Square fitment is the move on a Galant. The car is front wheel drive across every U.S. generation, and the rear wheels are unpowered. A wider rear wheel on a front wheel drive sedan does not gain you anything mechanically. It also looks awkward because the Galant rear fender is not flared to accommodate it. Run the same diameter and width front and rear.

What about the Galant VR-4?

The Galant VR-4 was the turbocharged all wheel drive performance variant of the Galant sold in non-U.S. markets, with a small U.S. presence in the early 1990s before our catalog window begins. The U.S. 1993-2012 Galants in our catalog are naturally aspirated front wheel drive cars only. If you have an early Galant VR-4 outside the 1993-2012 window, contact our team for a fitment consultation.

Is 5x114.3 the same as 5x115?

No. 5x114.3 and 5x115 are distinct bolt patterns. They sit only about 0.7mm apart on the hub circle, close enough to look interchangeable but far enough that running a 5x115 wheel on a 5x114.3 hub will stress the studs and is a safety concern. The 1999-2012 Galant is 5x114.3 specifically. 5x4.5 imperial = 5x114.3 only.

Is the Mitsubishi Galant discontinued?

Yes. Mitsubishi ended U.S. Galant production at the close of the 2012 model year, ending a four decade run in the U.S. market. Our catalog continues to support the 1993-2012 Galant indefinitely.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Mitsubishi Galant?

20 inch on the 2004-2012 9th gen Galant. 19 inch on the 1999-2003 8th gen. 18 inch on the 1993-1998 7th gen. The 9th gen has the widest fender and the most modern suspension geometry, which is why it tolerates the biggest wheel. 18 inch is the most common 8th gen aftermarket choice. 19 to 20 inch is the most common 9th gen aftermarket choice.
