Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is the rally homologation sedan that gave Mitsubishi its modern enthusiast credibility. Element Wheels measures fitment on every Lancer Evo Mitsubishi sold in the US: the Evo 8 (2003-2005), Evo 9 (2005-2006 in the US), and Evo X (2008-2015). The Evo is discontinued, so the year range is closed at 2003 through 2015. Every US Lancer Evo runs the same wheel interface: 5x114.3 bolt pattern (also called 5x4.5 imperial), a 67.1mm hub bore, an M12x1.5 thread, and 5 lugs. Every Lancer Evo also ships from the factory with a Brembo front brake package, which is the single biggest variable for aftermarket wheel fitment on this car. The Evo runs square AWD geometry from the factory, with the same wheel and tire size front and rear. The 5x114.3 bolt math is identical to the base Lancer, but the wheels do not interchange between an Evo and a base Lancer because the Evo runs a wider track, lower offsets, and the Brembo caliper takes more inner clearance behind the front wheel face.
Find Your Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Generation
Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Lancer Evo. The 5x114.3 / 67.1mm CB bolt pattern and the Brembo brake package are consistent across every Evo Mitsubishi sold in the US. What changes between Evo 8/9 and Evo X is the diameter window, the width window, and the chassis dimensions. The Evo X is the wider chassis with the larger factory wheel.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Bolt Pattern
Every US Lancer Evo from the Evo 8 (2003) through the Evo X (final 2015 model year) runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 across every Evo generation, with 5 lugs. A wheel built for an Evo 8 will bolt onto an Evo X at the lug-hole level, but the offset and width windows are different because the Evo X chassis is wider. That bolt math is also identical to the base Lancer sedan of the same era, but the Evo and the base Lancer do not interchange wheels in practice because the Evo runs a wider track, lower factory offsets, the Brembo brake, and wider factory tires. We track them on separate hub pages.
A cross pattern caution that applies to every 5x114.3 platform: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as the 5x115 pattern used on Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and similar American sedans. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart and are not interchangeable, even though the difference sounds tiny. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers only to 5x114.3 (because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly). Calling 5x115 "5x4.5" is wrong and forcing a 5x115 wheel onto a 5x114.3 hub puts the stud loading off center, which is a real safety issue on a turbocharged AWD car making big torque. Stick to wheels listed for 5x114.3 specifically. Compare across the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup at our Mitsubishi wheels and rims hub.
Why the Evo Ships Square AWD with a Brembo Front
The Lancer Evo is a turbocharged 2.0L AWD sedan engineered around the World Rally Championship homologation rules of its era. Every US Evo ships with a Brembo front brake package, paired with a Brembo rear on the higher trims. That is normal on a performance car built for the way the Evo is used. The front axle does the majority of the braking work, and Mitsubishi scales the front rotor and caliper accordingly. The Brembo front caliper takes more inner clearance behind the front wheel face than a base Lancer brake, which is exactly why our measured aftermarket diameter window starts at 17 inch on the Evo 8 and 9, and 18 inch on the Evo X. A 16 inch wheel will not clear the Brembo on any US Evo.
The Evo ships square front and rear. The AWD driveline runs the same wheel and tire size at all four corners by design, and the chassis is engineered around that geometry. Square fitment is a feature on this platform, not a compromise. Aftermarket staggered builds are not standard on the Evo and we do not recommend them. Running a wider rear than front on a square AWD car changes the rolling characteristics the differentials were designed for and can put load on the center differential it was not engineered to handle.
The Evo X (2008-2015) is the wider chassis with a wider track than the Evo 8/9. Our measured aftermarket width window on the Evo X tops at 10.5 inch where the Evo 8/9 tops at 10 inch. Factory wheel size on the Evo X also stepped up: 18 inch factory wheels on the Evo X, where the Evo 8 and 9 shipped on 17 inch factory wheels. The chassis change is the reason an Evo X wheel that looks right at the fender will often poke past on an Evo 8 or 9.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
Publishable factory and wheel specs across the US Lancer Evo lineup:
- Evo 8 and Evo 9 (2003-2006): 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 7.5-10 inch. Square fitment. Brembo front brake.
- Evo X (2008-2015): 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 67.1mm hub bore, M12x1.5 thread, 5 lug. Element aftermarket diameter range: 18-20 inch. Aftermarket width: 8-10.5 inch. Square fitment. Brembo front brake. Wider chassis than Evo 8/9.
For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Evo (each listing shows its own offset).

How We Confirm Fitment on Lancer Evo Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every US Lancer Evo from the Evo 8 through the Evo X. For the Evo that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, Brembo front caliper height, hub bore confirmation, lug seat depth, and the square AWD width ratio at every diameter we publish. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is why our published Evo window starts at 17 inch on the Evo 8/9 and 18 inch on the Evo X, and why we track the wider Evo X chassis as its own width case.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo?
Every US Lancer Evo from the Evo 8 (2003) through the Evo X (2008-2015) runs 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5 imperial, because 114.3mm = 4.5 inches exactly) with a 67.1mm hub bore. The thread pitch is M12x1.5 with 5 lugs. The pattern is consistent across every Evo generation Mitsubishi sold in the US.
What is the smallest wheel that clears the Evo Brembo brake?
17 inch on the Evo 8 and Evo 9 (2003-2006), 18 inch on the Evo X (2008-2015). The factory Brembo front caliper takes enough inner clearance behind the wheel face that a 16 inch wheel will not clear it on any US Evo. The Evo X jumped to 18 inch factory wheels for that reason, so the aftermarket starting point follows.
Will my base Lancer wheels fit a Lancer Evo?
The bolt math is the same on most year-matched Lancer and Evo sedans (5x114.3 / 67.1mm). The wheels do not interchange in practice. A base Lancer wheel is built for a narrower track, a higher factory offset, and a smaller base brake. On an Evo it will look too narrow at the fender, often will not clear the Brembo caliper, and the lower factory offset window of the Evo is not what the base Lancer wheel was designed for. The wheels share a name and bolt pattern. They are not a shared fitment. We track them on separate hub pages.
Can I run staggered wheels on a Lancer Evo?
We do not recommend it. The Evo ships square AWD from the factory. The driveline is engineered around the same wheel and tire size at all four corners, and the center differential expects that geometry. Running a wider rear than front on a square AWD car puts load on the center differential it was not designed to handle and changes the rolling characteristics the rally homologation engineering depended on. Every Element published Lancer Evo fitment is square.
Do Evo 8/9 and Evo X wheels interchange?
The bolt math is the same (5x114.3 / 67.1mm / M12x1.5). The chassis is not. The Evo X is wider than the Evo 8/9 and ships on 18 inch factory wheels where the Evo 8/9 shipped on 17 inch. An Evo X wheel that sits flush on an Evo X will often poke past the fender on an Evo 8/9 because the older chassis is narrower. An Evo 8/9 wheel on an Evo X will tuck behind the fender further than the Evo X was designed for. We measure both chassis separately.
What size wheels came on the Evo from the factory?
The Evo 8 and Evo 9 (2003-2006 in the US) shipped on 17 inch factory wheels. The Evo X (2008-2015) shipped on 18 inch factory wheels. Both Evo generations shipped square front and rear. Aftermarket Evo builds commonly stay at the factory diameter or step up one inch for visual stance.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 67.1mm. The 67.1mm hub bore is consistent across every US Lancer Evo. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
How do I find the right wheels for my specific Evo?
Three steps. Confirm whether you have an Evo 8/9 or an Evo X (different chassis widths and factory wheel sizes). Confirm your factory tire spec, since the Evo X runs a wider factory tire than the Evo 8/9. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Evo and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
