Nissan Xterra Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Nissan Xterra is Nissan's body-on-frame midsize SUV, in production from 2000 through 2015 across two generations. Element Wheels measures the Xterra across both generations Nissan sold in the US: the first generation WD22 (2000-2004) and the second generation N50 (2005-2015). The Xterra is built on the Nissan Frontier truck platform across both generations and shares the truck's chassis and wheel fitment box. The bolt pattern changed between generations. The WD22 Xterra runs 6x139.7 with a 100mm hub bore, the same pattern as the D22 Frontier of that era. The N50 Xterra runs 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore, the same pattern as the D40 Frontier. Both generations use the Japanese M12x1.25 fine pitch lug thread. The aftermarket diameter window runs from 15 inch up to 22 inch across the lineup. Nissan discontinued the Xterra after the 2015 model year.

Find Your Nissan Xterra Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Xterra. The bolt pattern changes between generations. The WD22 runs 6x139.7 / 100mm hub bore. The N50 runs 6x114.3 / 66.1mm hub bore. The two patterns are not interchangeable and the chassis swap also moved the hub bore.

The Nissan Xterra Bolt Pattern

The Xterra has two bolt patterns across its production run. The first generation WD22 (2000-2004) uses 6x139.7 with a 100mm hub bore and M12x1.25 lug thread. Six lugs. The second generation N50 (2005-2015) moved to 6x114.3 with a smaller 66.1mm hub bore and the same M12x1.25 thread. Six lugs on both. The chassis change from the D22 platform to the D40 platform drove the bolt-pattern and hub-bore swap. Confirm your year before ordering because the two patterns are not interchangeable and the hub bore also changed.

On the N50 Xterra, 6x114.3 has the imperial nickname 6x4.5 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches) and the two notations are identical. On the WD22 Xterra, 6x139.7 has the imperial nickname 6x5.5 (139.7mm = 5.5 inches), the classic American full-size truck pattern. Same-chassis sibling: the WD22 Xterra shares its hub spec with the D22 Frontier of that era, and the N50 Xterra shares its hub spec with the D40 Frontier. If a wheel fits one, it fits the other on the matching chassis.

Important: 6x114.3 is NOT 6x115 and 6x139.7 is NOT 6x135. The patterns are close in name but not in measurement and they do not bolt across. Confirm 6x114.3 (4.5 inch) for the N50 Xterra or 6x139.7 (5.5 inch) for the WD22 Xterra before ordering.

Why the Xterra Generation Determines Wheel Fit

The Xterra is body-on-frame and shares its chassis with the Nissan Frontier truck across both generations. That truck heritage is why the Xterra runs a full six lug pattern instead of the five lug used on Nissan's car and crossover lineup. The WD22 (2000-2004) is the original Xterra on the D22 Frontier chassis. The N50 (2005-2015) is the second and final generation, redesigned styling and a larger body on the D40 Frontier chassis. The bolt pattern, hub bore, brake hardware, and offset window all moved with the chassis change. The aftermarket diameter window opens at 15 inch on the WD22 (suitable for trail builds running an offroad tire) and runs up to 22 inch on the N50 (for daily-driver visual upgrades). Nissan discontinued the Xterra after the 2015 model year. There has been no third generation Xterra in the US.

The Xterra is square front and rear across every generation. There is no staggered fitment in the factory or aftermarket on this car. The Xterra is sold in rear wheel drive and four wheel drive trims across both generations. Same fitment box on both drivetrains, with the four wheel drive trim using the same bolt pattern, hub bore, lug thread, and offset window as the rear wheel drive trim. The Xterra Pro-4X off-road trim uses the same hub spec as the rest of the N50 lineup.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Nissan Xterra

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Xterra generations:

  • WD22 Xterra (2000-2004): 6x139.7, 100mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25 Japanese fine pitch thread. Element aftermarket diameter range: 15-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-9 inch square. Same chassis and hub spec as the D22 Nissan Frontier of that era.
  • N50 Xterra (2005-2015): 6x114.3, 66.1mm CB, 6 lug, M12x1.25. Element aftermarket diameter range: 16-22 inch. Aftermarket width range: 7-10 inch square. Same chassis and hub spec as the D40 Nissan Frontier. Includes the Pro-4X off-road trim on the same hub spec.

Offset windows differ between generations because the chassis change moved the suspension geometry, brake hardware, and hub bore. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Xterra (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Nissan Xterra wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Nissan Xterra Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including both Xterra generations from the WD22 through the N50. For the Xterra that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension on both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive layouts, brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation on the 100mm hub of the WD22 and the 66.1mm hub of the N50, lug seat depth on the M12x1.25 thread, and turning clearance at full lock. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

The Xterra is a body-on-frame midsize SUV with truck-chassis bones. The mistakes we see on this car are usually customers ordering 6x139.7 wheels for an N50 chassis (the N50 is 6x114.3, not the WD22's pattern) or ordering 6x114.3 wheels for a WD22 (the WD22 is 6x139.7). The chassis change in 2005 moved both the bolt pattern and the hub bore. We confirm the year, the chassis, the bolt pattern, the hub bore, and the brake clearance before any wheel ships.

Nissan Xterra Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Nissan Xterra?

The bolt pattern depends on the generation. The first generation WD22 Xterra (2000-2004) uses 6x139.7 with a 100mm hub bore and M12x1.25 lug thread (Japanese fine pitch). Six lugs. The second generation N50 Xterra (2005-2015) uses 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore and the same M12x1.25 thread. Six lugs on both generations. The chassis change in 2005 moved both the bolt pattern and the hub bore.

WD22 vs N50 Xterra: what changes for wheels?

Everything changes. The WD22 (2000-2004) uses 6x139.7 with a 100mm hub bore. The N50 (2005-2015) uses 6x114.3 with a 66.1mm hub bore. The bolt pattern, the hub bore, the brake hardware, and the offset window all moved with the chassis change from the D22 platform to the D40 platform. Lug thread stays M12x1.25 across both. Wheels do not interchange between the two generations.

Will Nissan Frontier wheels fit a Nissan Xterra?

Yes, on the matching chassis. The Xterra is built on the Nissan Frontier truck platform across both generations. The WD22 Xterra (2000-2004) shares the D22 Frontier chassis and hub spec (6x139.7 / 100mm CB). The N50 Xterra (2005-2015) shares the D40 Frontier chassis and hub spec (6x114.3 / 66.1mm CB). If a wheel fits the chassis-matched Frontier, it fits the Xterra of the same generation.

Are 6x114.3 and 6x115 the same on an Xterra?

No. The N50 Xterra is 6x114.3 specifically (6x4.5). 6x114.3 and 6x115 are different bolt patterns and do not bolt across. Confirm 6x114.3 for the N50 Xterra. For the WD22 Xterra, confirm 6x139.7 (6x5.5).

Does 4WD vs 2WD change the Xterra wheel fit?

No. The Xterra is the same fitment box on rear wheel drive and on four wheel drive within each generation. Same bolt pattern, same hub bore, same lug thread, same offset window, same diameter and width window. The drivetrain does not change wheel fit on the Xterra. The Pro-4X off-road trim of the N50 uses the same hub spec as the rest of the N50 lineup.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Nissan Xterra?

Our measured aftermarket window tops at 22 inch diameter across both Xterra generations. 17 inch and 18 inch are the most common choices for trail-leaning builds (smaller diameter holds more sidewall tire). 20 inch and 22 inch are the more common daily-driver visual upgrades. 15 inch is in our window for the WD22 only and is typically reserved for off-road builds running tall sidewall mud tires.

What lug nut do I need for a Nissan Xterra?

The Xterra uses the M12x1.25 lug thread, the Japanese fine pitch standard, across both generations. This is different from the M12x1.5 found on most American and European cars. If you are buying lug nuts separately from the wheels, confirm M12x1.25. The two thread pitches are not interchangeable and a 1.5 nut on a 1.25 stud will cross-thread and damage the stud.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Nissan Xterra?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your Xterra's factory hub bore. The WD22 factory hub bore is 100mm. The N50 factory hub bore is 66.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

Get Nissan Xterra Wheels Right the First Time

Pick your generation above to see wheels and rims that fit. We measure on the Xterra platform across both generations from the WD22 through the N50, account for the bolt-pattern and hub-bore change between the D22 and D40 Frontier chassis, and confirm the Japanese M12x1.25 thread pitch before any wheel ships. Find your fit and start enjoying your build sooner.
