Pontiac Grand Am Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Pontiac Grand Am is Pontiac's compact N-body car, with a nameplate that ran in various forms from 1973 through 2005 when it was replaced by the G6. Element Wheels measures fitment on the 1992-2005 Grand Am, which covers two N-body generations and includes the SE, GT, and GT1 trims across both sedan and coupe body styles. Important: the bolt pattern shifts in 1999. The 1992-1998 Grand Am uses 5x100 with a 57.1mm hub bore. The 1999-2005 Grand Am uses 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. The two are not interchangeable. Pick the right catalog row below.

Find Your Pontiac Grand Am Generation

Pick the year range that matches your Grand Am. The 1992-1998 Grand Am is the fourth generation N-body car and uses 5x100. The 1999-2005 Grand Am is the fifth and final generation N-body car and uses 5x115. The two bolt patterns are different (more on this below), so the row you pick determines which wheels fit your car. The earlier 1973-1991 Grand Am nameplates ran on different GM platforms and are not part of this catalog.

The Pontiac Grand Am Bolt Pattern Shift

The Grand Am went through a bolt pattern change in 1999. The 1992-1998 fourth gen Grand Am uses 5x100 with a 57.1mm hub bore. That hub spec was shared across GM's smaller-car N-body and J-body cars of the era (Pontiac Sunfire, Chevrolet Cavalier of the same range, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais sibling). The 1999-2005 fifth gen Grand Am moved to 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. That hub spec is the same one GM put on the W-body Grand Prix the Grand Am was sold alongside. Both Grand Am rows use an M12x1.5 lug thread with 5 lugs.

Two important distinctions to confirm before ordering wheels. First, a 1992-1998 Grand Am wheel will not fit a 1999-2005 Grand Am, and vice versa. The two bolt patterns are not interchangeable. Second, 5x115 and 5x114.3 are NOT the same bolt pattern. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart on the hub circle, small enough that the studs will start through a 5x114.3 lug hole on a 5x115 hub, but the seating will be off-center and the studs will be stressed unevenly. Over miles, that mismatch leads to wheel wobble and, in worse cases, lug failure. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname (114.3mm equals 4.5 inch) refers only to 5x114.3. The 1999-2005 Grand Am is 5x115 specifically. Compare across the rest of the Pontiac lineup at our Pontiac wheels and rims hub.

Why Grand Am Fitment Is Stable Within Each Generation

Within each generation, the Grand Am keeps the same hub geometry across every trim and body style. On the 1992-1998 fourth gen, the SE coupe and sedan and the GT coupe and sedan all share the same 5x100 / 57.1mm hub. On the 1999-2005 fifth gen, the SE, GT, and GT1 trims all share the same 5x115 / 70.3mm hub. Pontiac did not pair the GT or the GT1 trim with a different hub or brake spec. A wheel that fits a base 2002 Grand Am SE sedan also fits a 2002 Grand Am GT coupe of the same model year.

The diameter window we measure on the Grand Am differs between generations. The 1992-1998 row runs 14 to 18 inch, reflecting the smaller fourth gen factory wheels. The 1999-2005 row runs 15 to 20 inch, reflecting the larger fifth gen wheels and the rim-up trend that hit GM mid-size cars in the early 2000s. 16 to 17 inch is the most common fourth gen Grand Am aftermarket choice. 17 to 18 inch is the most common fifth gen Grand Am aftermarket choice. We measure each generation directly so the catalog reflects what actually clears the fender and the brake.

How We Confirm Fitment on Pontiac Grand Am Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the Grand Am directly, across both the fourth gen and the fifth gen, sedan and coupe, base SE, GT, and GT1 trims. For the Grand Am that means hub bore confirmation (57.1mm on the fourth gen, 70.3mm on the fifth gen), clearance from the wheel to the fender on a stock-height car, gap between the back of the wheel and the front strut, brake caliper height at the standard N-body spec, lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation at M12x1.5. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Pontiac Grand Am Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Pontiac Grand Am?

It depends on the year. The 1992-1998 Grand Am uses 5x100 with a 57.1mm hub bore. The 1999-2005 Grand Am uses 5x115 with a 70.3mm hub bore. Both use M12x1.5 lug threads and 5 lugs. The 1999 model year is the cutover.

Will my 1992-1998 Grand Am wheels fit a 1999-2005 Grand Am?

No. The 1992-1998 Grand Am uses a 5x100 / 57.1mm hub. The 1999-2005 Grand Am uses a 5x115 / 70.3mm hub. The bolt patterns are different and the hub bore is different. A wheel from one row will not seat correctly on the other row's hub. If you have a 4th gen Grand Am wheel and you are upgrading to a 5th gen Grand Am, you need new wheels.

Is the 5th gen Grand Am 5x115 the same as 5x114.3?

No. 5x115 and 5x114.3 are different bolt patterns. They sit roughly 0.7mm apart on the hub circle, small enough that the studs will start through a 5x114.3 lug hole on a 5x115 hub, but the seating will be off-center and the studs will be stressed unevenly. Over miles, that mismatch leads to wheel wobble and lug failure. The 5x4.5 imperial nickname refers only to 5x114.3. The 1999-2005 Grand Am is 5x115 specifically. Confirm any wheel listing says 5x115, not 5x114.3, before ordering.

Will Pontiac Sunfire or Chevy Cavalier wheels fit a 1992-1998 Grand Am?

Pattern yes, full fitment confirm. The Pontiac Sunfire, the Chevrolet Cavalier of the same era, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais all share the 5x100 / 57.1mm hub spec with the 1992-1998 Grand Am because they ride on the same GM N-body or J-body small-car chassis family. The bolt circle and hub bore line up. Offset windows and fender geometry vary across the nameplates, so confirm the wheel listing was fit-tested on the Grand Am specifically.

Will Pontiac Grand Prix wheels fit a 1999-2005 Grand Am?

Pattern yes, full fitment confirm. The 1997-2008 W-body Pontiac Grand Prix shares the 5x115 / 70.3mm hub spec with the 1999-2005 fifth gen Grand Am. The bolt circle and hub bore line up. The Grand Prix sits on the larger W-body chassis and the Grand Am sits on the N-body chassis, so the cars have different fender geometry and the offset windows are not identical. Confirm the wheel listing was fit-tested on the Grand Am specifically or sits inside the offset window we measure for the Grand Am.

Can I run staggered wheels on a Pontiac Grand Am?

Square is the default. The Grand Am is a front wheel drive car across both generations we cover, so staggered fitment on it would be a looks choice, not a performance choice. We measure square fitment on both N-body Grand Am generations: same width and offset front and rear. Most Grand Am customers run square.

Is the Grand Am discontinued?

Yes. The Grand Am was discontinued after the 2005 model year and replaced by the Pontiac G6. The G6 sits on a different platform (GM Epsilon) and uses a different bolt pattern (5x110 / 65.1mm), so a Grand Am wheel will not transfer to a G6. Our catalog continues to support the 1992-2005 Grand Am indefinitely.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Pontiac Grand Am?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than your Grand Am's factory hub bore (57.1mm on the 1992-1998 fourth gen, 70.3mm on the 1999-2005 fifth gen). If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
