The Saab 9-3 was the Swedish brand's compact executive car, sold in the United States from 1999 through 2011 across two generations. Element Wheels measures fitment on both generations of the 9-3 from our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona. The 1st generation 9-3 (1999-2003), known as the OG9-3, is built on the Saab 900 NG platform (the GM2900 floorpan inherited from the late Saab 900 New Generation). The 2nd generation 9-3 (2004-2011) moved to the GM Epsilon platform and shares mechanical underpinnings with the Opel Vectra C and the Cadillac BLS. The 9-3 was the volume Saab in the US through the brand's final year and remains one of the most active Saab platforms in our aftermarket customer base.

The bolt pattern is the same across both generations: 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore, lug bolts (not lug nuts) in the European convention with an M12x1.5 thread pitch. The 5x110 pattern is shared with the late-model Pontiac G6 and the Chevrolet Malibu of the same era, which is one of the rare bright spots in 9-3 wheel availability. The Saab 9-3 Bolt Pattern and Lug Geometry

Every Saab 9-3 sold in the United States from 1999 through 2011 runs 5x110 with a 65.1mm hub bore. The pattern held across the 1st gen OG9-3 (1999-2003) and the 2nd gen GM Epsilon car (2004-2011) with no mid-cycle changes. The 5x110 pattern is shared with the Pontiac G6 and the Chevrolet Malibu of the same era, both of which give you a broader aftermarket wheel pool to draw from than the Saab nameplate alone suggests.

The 9-3 mounts wheels with lug bolts, not lug nuts. This is the European convention used by most German and Swedish cars from the same era (BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Volkswagen). The thread pitch is M12x1.5. If you are coming to the 9-3 from a Japanese or American car, the practical difference is that the wheel has to be supported by hand while you start the lug bolt threads into the hub. There is no stud to slide the wheel onto. Most aftermarket wheels sold for the 9-3 will ship with the correct M12x1.5 lug bolts. If yours does not, the original Saab bolts work fine on most aftermarket wheels as long as the seat geometry matches (the 9-3 uses a ball seat, also called a radius seat, on most factory wheels).

Why the Saab 9-3 Runs Square Fitment

Every Saab 9-3 sold in the US is a front wheel drive sedan, hatchback, or convertible (the Saab 9-3 SportCombi wagon and the convertible 9-3 are also FWD). There is no AWD US-market 9-3 in either generation. Front wheel drive cars do not have the symmetric AWD constraint that forces matched circumference at all four corners, so technically the platform can accept staggered wheels. In practice the 9-3 is a square fitment car. The Element catalog rows for both generations carry matched front-rear width because that is how customers actually buy wheels for this platform. The brake package is matched front to rear across every 9-3 trim sold in the US, including the 9-3 Aero and the 9-3 Viggen of the OG9-3 era.

The 9-3 was not built as a wide-wheel car. Factory wheel widths range from 6 inch on entry-level 1st gen trims up to 7.5 inch on the 9-3 Aero and Turbo X trims of the 2nd gen. The car wears its fenders close.
