Subaru BR-Z Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Subaru BR-Z is Subaru's rear-drive naturally-aspirated boxer sport coupe, the lightweight platform Subaru co-developed with Toyota and the only RWD car Subaru sells in the United States. The 1st generation ZC6 ran from 2013 through 2020. After a one-year gap in model year 2021 during the platform changeover, the 2nd generation ZD8 launched for 2022 and is currently produced. The BR-Z and the Toyota 86 / GR86 (formerly the Scion FR-S in 2013-2016) are the same chassis. Element catalogs them as separate fitment leaves but the dimensions are essentially identical. Across both generations, our catalog shows the BR-Z carries a 5x100 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm hub bore, with M12x1.25 lug nuts on permanent wheel studs. The 5x100 pattern is the standard Subaru spec and holds across every BR-Z trim and year, including the Brembo-brake variants on both the 1st and 2nd generation. Compare across the rest of the Subaru lineup at our Subaru wheels and rims hub.

Find Your Subaru BR-Z Generation

Pick your generation and brake package to see wheels and rims that fit your specific BR-Z. Bolt pattern (5x100) and hub bore (56.1mm) are constant across every generation and trim. What changes is the diameter window (the 2nd gen ZD8 adds a 20 inch option), the rear width window (the 2nd gen narrows slightly from 8.5-10 to 8.5-9.5 inch), and the offset window. The Brembo brake trims have a larger front caliper than the Base brake trims; the 1st gen Brembo pulls the front package further from the rear than the 2nd gen Brembo does. Note the one-year gap in model year 2021. The ZC6 ended after 2020, the ZD8 started for 2022, and no BR-Z was produced for the 2021 model year.

The Subaru BR-Z Bolt Pattern

Every Subaru BR-Z, 1st generation ZC6 and 2nd generation ZD8, uses a 5x100 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm hub bore. Lug count is five, thread pitch is M12x1.25 lug nuts on permanent wheel studs. The 5x100 pattern is the Subaru standard for the older lighter cars in the lineup and the BR-Z holds it across every trim and year. Hub bore on the BR-Z is 56.1mm, which is the same hub bore Subaru uses on the standard Impreza, Crosstrek, Forester, and the older WRX. The Subaru WRX moved to 5x114.3 in 2015 when it separated from the Impreza nameplate (and the standard Impreza moved to 5x114.3 in 2024 with the 6th gen), but the BR-Z stayed on 5x100 across both generations because the lightweight RWD chassis didn't need the larger pattern. The same 5x100 / 56.1mm spec is also used by the Toyota 86 / GR86 (formerly Scion FR-S 2013-2016), the only other vehicle on this same chassis. A wheel built for a Toyota 86 or a GR86 at 5x100 / 56.1mm has the correct hub bore and bolt pattern for a BR-Z.

Critical spec callout: the BR-Z lug-nut thread pitch is M12x1.25, NOT M12x1.5. The Subaru spec is the smaller pitch. M12x1.5 lug nuts (the standard Toyota truck thread pitch) will physically thread onto a BR-Z stud but the engagement will be loose and not safe at torque. Confirm lug nuts are M12x1.25 before mounting aftermarket wheels.

BR-Z and Toyota 86 / GR86 Same-Chassis, and How Brembo Brakes Affect Fitment

The Subaru BR-Z and the Toyota 86 / GR86 are the same chassis. Toyota and Subaru co-developed the platform; Subaru builds the cars in Japan. The Scion FR-S (2013-2016, before Scion was retired) was the original Toyota-badged version, then it became the Toyota 86 in 2017, then the GR86 in 2022 alongside the 2nd gen BR-Z. Bolt pattern, hub bore, brake hardware, suspension geometry, and the fitment window are essentially identical across all three nameplates of the same generation. Element catalogs them as separate vehicle pages because customers search by car name, but the wheels cross. If a wheel fits a 2024 GR86, it also fits a 2024 BR-Z.

Brake variation matters within the lineup. The Base brake trims (1st gen ZC6 Base 2013-2020 and 2nd gen ZD8 Base 2022 and up) carry a matched front-and-rear caliper package. The Brembo trims step up to a larger front caliper. On the 1st gen ZC6 Brembo (2013-2020), the front caliper is meaningfully bigger than the rear, with a wider front-to-rear gap than the 2nd gen Brembo car. On the 2nd gen ZD8 Brembo (2025 and up), the front is also larger than the rear but the gap is smaller. Brembo-equipped BR-Zs need a slightly closer look at inner-barrel clearance behind the front spokes, and we measure this separately for each Brembo trim. The diameter window on both generations runs 17 to 19 inch on the 1st gen and 17 to 20 inch on the 2nd gen.

How We Confirm Fitment on Subaru BR-Z Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the BR-Z directly, across both the 1st generation ZC6 and the 2nd generation ZD8, and across both Base and Brembo brake trims. For the BR-Z that means clearance from the wheel to the fender on both axles, gap between the back of the wheel and the rear-drive suspension, brake caliper height (front and rear, with the larger front Brembo on the Brembo trims), hub bore confirmation to the 56.1mm Subaru hub, and lug nut thread engagement at M12x1.25 (not M12x1.5). At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

Subaru BR-Z Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Subaru BR-Z?

Every Subaru BR-Z, 1st generation ZC6 (2013-2020) and 2nd generation ZD8 (2022 and up), uses 5x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore. Lug count is five and the thread pitch is M12x1.25 lug nuts on permanent wheel studs. The 5x100 pattern is the Subaru standard for lighter cars in the lineup and the BR-Z holds it across every trim and year, including the Brembo brake variants.

Was the BR-Z sold for the 2021 model year?

No. The 1st generation ZC6 BR-Z ended after the 2020 model year. The 2nd generation ZD8 BR-Z launched for the 2022 model year. No BR-Z was produced for the 2021 model year during the platform changeover. If you are looking at a "2021 BR-Z," it is either a leftover 2020 sold as a 2021 by the dealer or it is a different model year than the production calendar shows. Element BR-Z fitment specs cover 2013-2020 for the 1st gen and 2022 and up for the 2nd gen.

Is the BR-Z the same chassis as the Toyota 86 or GR86?

Yes. The Subaru BR-Z and the Toyota 86 / GR86 (and the older Scion FR-S 2013-2016) are the same chassis, co-developed by Toyota and Subaru and built by Subaru in Japan. Bolt pattern, hub bore, brake hardware, suspension, and the fitment window are essentially identical across all three nameplates of the same generation. If a wheel fits a 2024 GR86, it also fits a 2024 BR-Z. We catalog them as separate vehicle pages because customers search by car name, but the wheels cross.

Are BR-Z wheels staggered?

Optionally. The BR-Z accepts either a square fitment or a mild rear-staggered setup. From the factory the car is essentially square. Our measured aftermarket window allows a wider rear (8.5-10 inch on the 1st gen, 8.5-9.5 inch on the 2nd gen) paired with a 7.5-8.5 inch front if you want a staggered look, or a square 7.5-8.5 inch on both axles if you want a tighter visual. Square fitment lets you rotate front-to-rear; staggered fitment does not. Both work mechanically; it is a customer preference call.

Brembo brakes vs Base brakes: does it change the wheel I can buy?

Yes. The Brembo trims (1st gen ZC6 Brembo 2013-2020 and 2nd gen ZD8 Brembo 2025 and up) carry a larger front caliper than the Base-brake cars. The 1st gen Brembo front is meaningfully bigger than its matched rear; the 2nd gen Brembo front is also larger than the rear but the gap is smaller. The bigger Brembo front needs more inner-barrel clearance behind the front wheel face, and aftermarket wheels with a tighter spoke pattern can run out of clearance. The bolt pattern (5x100) and hub bore (56.1mm) match the Base brake trims so wheels can cross mechanically, but we measure each Brembo trim separately for caliper clearance.

Will WRX or Impreza wheels fit a BR-Z?

Older WRX wheels (pre-2015, when the WRX was still 5x100) and pre-2024 standard Impreza wheels share the same 5x100 / 56.1mm spec as the BR-Z and will physically bolt on. Modern WRX wheels (2015 and up, moved to 5x114.3) and 2024 and up 6th gen Impreza wheels (also 5x114.3) will NOT fit a BR-Z; the bolt pattern is different. Even where the bolt math crosses (older 5x100 Subarus), fender clearance and offset windows on the BR-Z RWD chassis are different from the AWD WRX or Impreza chassis. The closest cross-platform reference is the Toyota 86 / GR86, which is the same chassis as the BR-Z.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Subaru BR-Z?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 56.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

How do I find wheels for my specific Subaru BR-Z?

Three steps. Confirm your generation (1st gen ZC6 2013-2020 or 2nd gen ZD8 2022 and up). Confirm your brake package (Base or Brembo). Confirm whether you want square or staggered fitment. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific BR-Z (each listing shows its own offset) and browse the wheel gallery for real-life builds with size and offset captions. Confirm M12x1.25 lug nuts (not M12x1.5) when ordering hardware separately. Every wheel we recommend is backed by the Fitment Guarantee.
