The Subaru Crosstrek Bolt Pattern, and the 2024 Switch

From launch in 2013 through the 2023 model year, every Subaru Crosstrek ran 5x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore. That covers the 1st gen XV Crosstrek (2013-2017) and the 2nd gen Crosstrek (2018-2023). The Subaru BRZ, the Toyota 86, and the standard Impreza of the same era all share the 5x100 pattern with the older Crosstreks, as do most non-WRX naturally-aspirated Subarus from that era.

Starting with the 3rd gen Crosstrek (2024 and up), Subaru moved the Crosstrek to 5x114.3 with the same 56.1mm hub bore. This change mirrors the parallel transition on the 6th gen GU Impreza, which also moved from 5x100 to 5x114.3 for the 2024 model year. The Crosstrek is built on the Impreza platform, so the two cars share the bolt pattern history. A 5x100 wheel from a 2023 or earlier Crosstrek will NOT bolt onto a 2024 or later Crosstrek. The 5x114.3 pattern is also written as 5x4.5 in imperial. That imperial nickname refers ONLY to 5x114.3 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches) and not to 5x115. A wheel listed for 5x115 (Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX) will NOT bolt onto a 2024 Crosstrek either, even though the difference reads as less than a millimeter. The hub bore stays 56.1mm across every Crosstrek generation, so the hub-fit geometry is consistent across the entire platform run.

One more detail specific to Subaru: the wheel lug thread on the Crosstrek is 12x1.25, not the 12x1.5 used on Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia. That thread pitch is consistent across every Crosstrek and every modern Subaru, but if you are reusing lug nuts from a non-Subaru car, they will not thread on. Why Crosstreks Run Square Fitment, and the Overland Build Path

Every Crosstrek is symmetric all-wheel-drive from the factory. Subaru uses a longitudinally-mounted boxer engine paired with a center differential and front-rear torque split. That drivetrain requires matched circumference at all four corners. A wheel and tire combo that is taller in the rear than the front (or vice versa) confuses the center diff and stresses the transfer case over miles. Square fitment is not optional on a Crosstrek, it is the engineering constraint. Element catalog rows for every Crosstrek generation reflect this: matched front-rear width and matched tire diameter across the range, no staggered option.

The Crosstrek also has a real overland following. We measure two specific overland fitment paths on the 5x100 Crosstreks. Standard overland fits a smaller diameter wheel (15 to 18 inch range) with a taller all-terrain tire on the factory-height car. Lifted overland (specific to the 2nd gen 2018-2023) fits the same smaller-diameter wheel range but adds 1-2 inch of suspension lift to clear a taller and wider all-terrain tire than the stock body will accept. The brake package on the standard Crosstrek is matched front to rear across every generation. There is no front-larger-than-rear split on this car the way there is on a WRX or STI. The matched brake keeps the aftermarket diameter window open from 15 inch (overland) to 22 inch (3rd gen on-road).
