The Subaru Outback is the raised, all-wheel-drive wagon version of the Subaru Legacy, and one of the longest-running symmetric-AWD nameplates Subaru sells. Element Wheels measures fitment across five generations of the Outback: BH (2000-2004), BP (2005-2009), BR (2010-2014), BS (2015-2019), and the current BT (2020 and up). The bolt pattern history on the Outback has one major transition you need to confirm before ordering. The 2000-2014 Outbacks (BH, BP, BR) ran 5x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore. Starting with the 5th gen BS (2015), Subaru moved the Outback to 5x114.3 with the same 56.1mm hub bore. The current BT (2020 and up) continues on 5x114.3. A 5x100 wheel from a 2014 or earlier Outback will NOT bolt onto a 2015 or later Outback. The Outback also runs a dedicated Wilderness trim from 2020 forward with off-road suspension, and Element measures a separate Overland Fitment line for buyers running taller all-terrain tires on the BS and BT generations. The Subaru Outback Bolt Pattern, and the 2015 Switch

From the 2000 model year through 2014, every Subaru Outback ran 5x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore. That covers the 2nd gen BH wagon (2000-2004), the 3rd gen BP (2005-2009), and the 4th gen BR (2010-2014). 5x100 is the Subaru naturally-aspirated standard of that era, used on the standard Impreza, the Forester, the Crosstrek (post-2013), and the Legacy sibling that the Outback is built on.

The 5th gen BS Outback (2015-2019) moved to 5x114.3 with the same 56.1mm hub bore. This is the Outback's biggest fitment change in two decades. The Outback transitioned to 5x114.3 nine years earlier than the standard Impreza and Crosstrek, both of which stayed on 5x100 until 2024. The bolt pattern transition is tied to the Outback's underlying platform shift; the BS Outback moved to a larger Subaru Global Platform variant before the smaller cars did. The current BT Outback (2020 and up) continues on 5x114.3 / 56.1mm. A 5x100 wheel from a 2014 or earlier Outback will NOT bolt onto a 2015 or later Outback. Confirm your model year before ordering. The 5x114.3 pattern is also written as 5x4.5 in imperial (114.3mm = 4.5 inches), but that imperial nickname refers ONLY to 5x114.3, not to 5x115. A 5x115 wheel will not bolt to a 2015 or later Outback either.

The hub bore stays 56.1mm across every Outback from 2000 forward, so the hub-fit geometry is consistent across the entire run even when the bolt pattern changes. One more detail specific to Subaru: the wheel lug thread on the Outback is 12x1.25, not the 12x1.5 used on Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia. That thread pitch is consistent across every Outback and every modern Subaru, but if you are reusing lug nuts from a non-Subaru car, they will not thread on. Why Outbacks Run Square, and the Wilderness and Overland Builds

Every Outback is symmetric all-wheel-drive from the factory. Subaru uses a longitudinally-mounted boxer engine paired with a center differential and front-rear torque split. That drivetrain requires matched circumference at all four corners. A wheel and tire combo that is taller in the rear than the front (or vice versa) confuses the center diff and stresses the transfer case over miles. Square fitment is not optional on an Outback, it is the engineering constraint. Element catalog rows for every Outback generation reflect this: matched front-rear width and matched tire diameter across the range, no staggered option.

The Outback Wilderness (2020 and up, BT generation) adds off-road suspension over the standard BT Outback: more ground clearance, a retuned damper package, all-terrain tires from the dealer, and a slightly different ride height. Wilderness still runs the same 5x114.3 / 56.1mm bolt pattern and hub bore as the standard BT Outback, but the wider all-terrain tire and the additional suspension travel change the fitment window. We measure Wilderness as its own catalog line. The standard Element Outback Overland Fitment (offered on the 5th gen BS and 6th gen BT) is a separate path: smaller diameter wheel (17 to 18 inch) with a taller all-terrain tire for buyers building an overland-style Outback on the standard suspension. On the lower-offset Overland builds we keep the tire to 225mm wide max to clear the fender at the more aggressive offset; the fitment listings spell this out.
