Element Wheels measures fitment across two generations: the original 2012-2020 Model S (2WD and AWD variants) and the 2021 and up refresh that brought the redesigned interior, the Long Range update, and the Plaid powertrain. Bolt pattern is straightforward on the Model S. Every Model S row in our catalog runs 5x120 with a 64.1mm hub bore. What changes between the two generations is the brake hardware, the factory wheel width, and the staggered-or-square rule. The 2012-2020 cars run an optional staggered setup with the front brake larger than the rear, which is the norm on a luxury sedan that weighs north of 4,800 pounds. The 2021 and up refresh stepped up both the front and rear brakes and locked the aftermarket window to must-staggered, with a wider rear wheel and a wider front wheel than the first run. The Long Range and the Plaid carry the same bolt pattern and the same hub bore. The Plaid adds wider rear-wheel width and the larger brake hardware required to slow a 1,020 horsepower triple-motor sedan. The Tesla Model S Bolt Pattern

Every Tesla Model S uses 5x120 with a 64.1mm hub bore. That covers the 2012-2020 2WD and AWD cars, the 2021 and up Long Range, and the 2021 and up Plaid. The lug spec is M14x1.5 across the full platform run. The 5x120 pattern is shared with BMW luxury sedans and SUVs (5 series, X5, X3 and others) and with the GM Zeta platform (Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan, 5th gen Camaro, Holden Commodore), but the hub bores do not match. BMW 5x120 is bored 72.56mm, GM Zeta 5x120 is bored 66.9mm, and Tesla Model S 5x120 is bored 64.1mm. A BMW-bored wheel will physically bolt onto a Model S if the bolt circle matches, but the cap will not sit flush against the hub and the lug-stress geometry is not what Tesla engineered for. We recommend running a 72.56-to-64.1mm hub centric ring if you are mounting BMW-bored wheels on a Model S, or sticking to Tesla-bored 64.1mm wheels in the first place.

The Model S bolt pattern (5x120 / 64.1mm) is different from the Model 3 and Model Y bolt pattern (5x114.3 / 64.1mm). The two patterns are very close numerically (115 vs 114.3 vs 120 are all five-lug, but only 114.3 and 5x4.5 imperial are the same circle), but they are not interchangeable. Why the 2021 Refresh Changed the Model S Fitment Window

The 2012-2020 Model S, in both 2WD and AWD form, runs the front brake larger than the rear. That is normal on a performance luxury sedan; the front axle does the majority of the braking and Tesla scales the front rotor and caliper accordingly. The aftermarket window on the 2012-2020 cars accepts an optional staggered setup, with an 8 to 9 inch front and a 9 to 10.5 inch rear wheel, and the diameter range stretches from 19 to 22 inch. Square fitments also work on the 2012-2020 cars.

The 2021 and up refresh did three things to the fitment window. It widened the wheels (9 to 10 inch front and 9.5 to 11 inch rear on the Long Range; the Plaid takes the rear up to 10.5 to 11 inch). It stepped up both the front and rear brake hardware to handle the additional weight and the Plaid's 1,020 horsepower output, which means the rear brake is no longer the smaller of the two on the refresh cars. And it locked the aftermarket setup to must-staggered. The refresh Model S is a wider, more aggressive car than the original and the fitment window reflects that. The Long Range and Plaid use the same bolt pattern and the same hub bore, but the Plaid runs a wider rear wheel because of the wider rear tire it needs to put down the triple-motor torque.

How We Confirm Fitment on Tesla Model S Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every Model S generation since the 2012 launch. For the Model S that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, front brake caliper height (and rear brake caliper height on the 2021 and up refresh where the rear stepped up), hub bore confirmation, lug stud seat depth, and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed.
