Toyota 86 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Toyota 86 is the rear-drive naturally aspirated sport coupe Toyota sold in the US market from 2017 through 2020. It is the direct successor to the Scion FR-S (2013-2016), produced on the same ZN6/ZC6 chassis after Toyota retired the Scion brand. The car continued under the GR86 name starting in 2022 on a new 2nd generation ZN8 chassis. The 1st generation 86 platform is Toyota and Subaru co-developed, with Subaru building the cars in Japan. The Subaru BRZ is the same chassis with a different badge. That is why the 86 wheel hardware reads more like a Subaru than a typical Toyota: 5x100 bolt pattern, 56.1mm hub bore, and M12x1.25 thread pitch on permanent wheel studs. Most Toyota cars run 5x114.3 with M12x1.5 thread, so a wheel set built for a Camry or a Corolla will not bolt to an 86. Across the 86 lineup, our catalog supports a 17 to 19 inch diameter window and both square and staggered setups, with the staggered window biased toward a wider rear wheel. Find your 86 below and the wheel and rim recommendations follow.

Find Your Toyota 86

Pick your 86 to see wheels and rims that fit. The 86 ran a single ZN6 chassis across its 2017-2020 US production span. Bolt pattern (5x100), hub bore (56.1mm), thread pitch (M12x1.25), and the diameter and width windows are constant across Base Brakes and Brembo Brakes trims. The Brembo front caliper is larger than the Base, but stays inside our measured fitment window for the 17 to 19 inch diameter range.

The Toyota 86 Bolt Pattern

Every Toyota 86 (2017-2020) uses a 5x100 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm hub bore. Lug count is five, thread pitch is M12x1.25 on permanent wheel studs. The same spec carries over from the predecessor Scion FR-S (2013-2016), to the Subaru BRZ ZC6 (2013-2020), and continues on the 2nd generation Toyota GR86 (2022 and up) and Subaru BRZ ZD8. Toyota's standard car bolt pattern is 5x114.3 (Camry, Corolla, Highlander, RAV4, and most of the rest of the lineup), but the 86 is built on Subaru hardware and carries Subaru spec instead. That distinction matters: wheels listed for a Camry or a Corolla at 5x114.3 / 60.1mm will NOT fit an 86.

Critical spec callout: the 86 lug-nut thread pitch is M12x1.25, NOT M12x1.5. Most Toyota cars use M12x1.5. The 86 carries the Subaru smaller pitch because the platform is Subaru-engineered. M12x1.5 lug nuts will physically thread onto an 86 stud but the engagement will be loose and is not safe at torque. Confirm your lug nuts are M12x1.25 before mounting aftermarket wheels. Also worth noting clearly: 5x100 is NOT the same as 5x114.3. Both are 5-lug, but the bolt circle diameter is different (100mm vs 114.3mm). A 5x100 wheel will not fit a 5x114.3 hub and vice versa. Compare across the rest of the Toyota lineup at our Toyota wheels and rims hub.

Same Chassis as the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S

The Toyota 86, the Subaru BRZ, and the Scion FR-S are all the same ZN6/ZC6 chassis. Toyota and Subaru co-developed the platform. Subaru manufactures the cars in Japan and ships them with the appropriate front badge depending on which brand is selling the car in which market. The Scion FR-S launched the platform in 2013. The car was rebadged as the Toyota 86 in 2017 when Scion was retired in the US market. It became the GR86 in 2022 alongside the 2nd generation Subaru BRZ on a new ZN8 chassis. Across the 1st generation cars (FR-S 2013-2016, Toyota 86 2017-2020, Subaru BRZ 2013-2020), the wheel and brake hardware is essentially identical. If a wheel fits a 2018 Subaru BRZ, it also fits a 2018 Toyota 86. Element catalogs the three nameplates as separate vehicle pages because customers search by car name, but the fitment math crosses cleanly.

Practical implication when cross-shopping: a wheel cataloged for the 1st generation Subaru BRZ (ZC6, 2013-2020) or the Scion FR-S (2013-2016) at the same diameter and width spec will fit the 86 the same way. The 2nd generation BRZ (ZD8) and the Toyota GR86 (2022 and up) added a 20 inch diameter option that was not part of the 1st generation 86 fitment window. Stick to the 17 to 19 inch range for the 2017-2020 86.

Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Toyota 86

Publishable factory and wheel specs across the Toyota 86 lineup:

  • Toyota 86 Base Brakes (2017-2020): 5x100 bolt pattern, 56.1mm hub bore, M12x1.25 thread pitch on permanent wheel studs. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17-19 inch. Square width range: 7.5-8.5 inch front and rear. Optional staggered width range: 7.5-8.5 inch front / 8.5-10 inch rear. Front and rear brake matched in size.
  • Toyota 86 Brembo Brakes (2017-2020): Same 5x100 / 56.1mm / M12x1.25 spec. Same 17-19 inch diameter window. Same square (7.5-8.5 front and rear) and staggered (7.5-8.5 front / 8.5-10 rear) width windows. The Brembo front caliper is larger than the Base, but stays inside the measured fitment window across the published diameter range.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific 86 (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Toyota 86 wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota 86 Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the Toyota 86 across its 2017-2020 production run on both Base Brakes and Brembo Brakes trims. For the 86 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (the Brembo runs a larger front caliper than the Base), hub bore confirmation (the 86 runs 56.1mm, NOT the 60.1mm common to mainstream Toyota cars), lug-stud thread pitch confirmation (M12x1.25, NOT M12x1.5), and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do. That measurement work is what produced the 17 to 19 inch diameter window and the square-or-staggered fitment guidance on this page.

Toyota 86 Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Toyota 86?

Every Toyota 86 (2017-2020) uses 5x100 with a 56.1mm hub bore and M12x1.25 thread pitch. The 86 carries Subaru hardware spec because the ZN6/ZC6 chassis was Toyota+Subaru co-developed and Subaru-built. That is a different bolt pattern, hub bore, and thread pitch than mainstream Toyota cars, which run 5x114.3 / 60.1mm / M12x1.5.

Will Subaru BRZ wheels fit a Toyota 86?

Yes. The Toyota 86 and the 1st generation Subaru BRZ (ZC6, 2013-2020) are the same chassis. Toyota and Subaru co-developed the platform and Subaru builds the cars in Japan. Bolt pattern (5x100), hub bore (56.1mm), thread pitch (M12x1.25), brake hardware, and suspension geometry are essentially identical. A wheel that fits a 2018 BRZ also fits a 2018 Toyota 86 at the same diameter, width, and offset spec.

Will Scion FR-S or Toyota GR86 wheels fit a Toyota 86?

Scion FR-S wheels (2013-2016) fit the Toyota 86 directly. The FR-S is the same ZN6 chassis with a different badge from the pre-2017 era. The Toyota GR86 (2022 and up) is the 2nd generation of the platform with the same bolt pattern, hub bore, and thread pitch, but the GR86 added a 20 inch fitment option that the 1st generation 86 does not support. Stick to the 17 to 19 inch range on the 2017-2020 86.

Will wheels from other Toyota models fit a Toyota 86?

Looks similar across the badge, but it doesn't cross. Mainstream Toyota cars (Camry, Corolla, Avalon, Highlander, RAV4) run 5x114.3 / 60.1mm with M12x1.5 thread pitch. The 86 runs 5x100 / 56.1mm with M12x1.25. Different bolt circle, different hub centering, different thread pitch. Wheels from the rest of the Toyota lineup do not bolt to an 86. The Toyota Supra Mk5 (A90) uses BMW hardware (5x112 / 66.6mm) and does not cross either.

Can I run staggered wheels on a Toyota 86?

Yes. The 86 is rear-wheel-drive, which means a staggered setup works mechanically. Our measured fitment window supports both square (7.5-8.5 inch front and rear) and staggered (7.5-8.5 inch front / 8.5-10 inch rear) configurations. Staggered gives a wider rear contact patch for grip and a more aggressive stance, but loses tire rotation flexibility across four corners. Square keeps rotation possible and is the more common track-day choice. Both options are supported in our catalog.

Does the 86 Brembo brake trim run different wheels than the Base?

Same bolt pattern (5x100), hub bore (56.1mm), and thread pitch (M12x1.25). The Brembo front caliper is larger than the Base, which tightens inner-barrel clearance on the front wheels. Our measured fitment window stays the same across both trims (17-19 inch diameter, 7.5-8.5 inch front, 7.5-8.5 inch rear square or 8.5-10 inch rear staggered), but wheel spoke geometry on the front matters more on the Brembo. Front larger than rear is the norm on performance cars. The Brembo upgrade gives the 86 stronger braking up front where the weight transfers under deceleration.

What size wheels and tires came on the Toyota 86 from the factory?

The Toyota 86 shipped with 17x7.0 factory wheels and 215/45R17 tires, matched front and rear (square setup). The same factory size carried over from the Scion FR-S. Confirm your specific build in the owner manual or the Monroney sticker if it is still in the door jamb area.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Toyota 86?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 56.1mm. That holds across every Toyota 86. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
