Toyota MR2 Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Toyota MR2 is the mid-engine rear-drive sport car Toyota produced across three generations from 1985 through 2005. Element Wheels measures fitment on the 2nd generation SW20 MR2 (1991-1995 US-market) and the 3rd generation W30 MR2 Spyder (2000-2005), which are the two generations in active aftermarket demand. These two generations run completely different wheel hardware: the SW20 is a 5-lug 5x114.3 setup with a 60.1mm hub bore, and the W30 Spyder is a 4-lug 4x100 setup with a 54.1mm hub bore. Wheels do NOT cross between SW20 and W30. The SW20 runs square front and rear, the W30 Spyder supports both square and optional staggered (wider rear). Both are mid-engine, so the rear axle carries the drive and the bias toward a wider rear on the Spyder is a stance-and-grip choice. The Toyota MR2 Bolt Pattern

Two completely different bolt patterns sit on the MR2 across the two generations Element measures. The 2nd generation SW20 MR2 (1991-1995) uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern (also called 5x4.5) with a 60.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 thread pitch on permanent wheel studs. The 3rd generation W30 MR2 Spyder (2000-2005) uses a 4x100 bolt pattern with a 54.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 thread pitch. Wheels do NOT cross between the SW20 and the W30 because the lug count itself changes from five to four, the bolt circle changes from 114.3mm to 100mm, and the hub bore changes from 60.1mm to 54.1mm.

Worth noting clearly: 5x114.3 is NOT the same as 5x115. The two patterns sit roughly 0.7mm apart and are not interchangeable. The imperial nickname 5x4.5 refers ONLY to 5x114.3 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches). The Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger LX, and similar American sedans use 5x115, and those wheels will not fit a 5x114.3 hub. Also worth noting: 4x100 is NOT the same as 4x108 or 4x114.3. Those are different lug circles and the wheels do not cross. SW20 vs W30 Spyder Differences That Matter for Wheel Fitment

The SW20 (1991-1995) is the closed-roof mid-engine coupe with the 3S-GE and turbocharged 3S-GTE engines (the turbo Mk2 is the cult car). It runs 5-lug 5x114.3 / 60.1mm and runs square (same width front and rear). Our measured aftermarket window covers 14 to 18 inch diameter and 6 to 8 inch width. Most aftermarket SW20 builds land at 16 or 17 inch on a 7 to 7.5 inch width. The chassis has tight rear strut tower clearance and the rear-mounted engine means the brake clearance window is different front to rear. We measure both ends separately.

The W30 MR2 Spyder (2000-2005) is the open-top mid-engine roadster with the 1ZZ-FE 1.8 liter. It is a lighter and narrower car than the SW20. It runs 4-lug 4x100 / 54.1mm and supports both square and optional staggered setups. Our measured aftermarket window covers 15 to 18 inch diameter, with a square width range of 6 to 7.5 inch front and rear, or a staggered window of 6 to 7.5 inch front and 7 to 9.5 inch rear. The staggered window biases toward a wider rear, which makes mechanical sense for a mid-engine rear-drive car where the rear axle carries the power. The 1ZZ-FE 1.8L is not the high-revving 2ZZ-GE found in the Celica GT-S. The MR2 Spyder is more about handling balance than peak power.

How We Confirm Fitment on Toyota MR2 Wheels

For the MR2 that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension or engine bay (the mid-engine layout puts the powertrain right behind the rear seats, which changes rear-end clearance compared to a front-engine car), brake caliper height, hub bore confirmation (60.1mm on the SW20, 54.1mm on the W30), lug-stud thread pitch confirmation (M12x1.5 on both), and turning clearance with the wheel and tire installed. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
