The Volkswagen Jetta Bolt Pattern

The Jetta has used three different bolt patterns across the generations in our active catalog. The Mk3 4-cylinder (1992-1998) ran 4x100. The Mk3 VR6 (1992-1998) moved to 5x100 ahead of the rest of the lineup, the same 5x100 that the entire Mk4 (1999-2005) used across both 4-cylinder and VR6 engines. From the Mk5 forward (2005 and up), every Jetta uses 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore. Hub bore is 57.1mm on every Jetta in our catalog regardless of bolt pattern. VW runs lug bolts on the Jetta, not lug studs and nuts the way most American and Asian sedans do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit more important on the Jetta than on a stud-and-nut sedan.

The Mk5 bolt-pattern change (5x100 to 5x112) is the single most important spec to get right when buying wheels for a 2005 and newer Jetta, because aftermarket listings for "Volkswagen Jetta" without a generation filter sometimes default to the older 5x100 pattern. A 5x100 wheel does NOT bolt onto a Mk5, Mk6, or Mk7. A 5x112 wheel does NOT bolt onto a Mk3 or Mk4. The 5x112 / 57.1mm spec from the Mk5 forward matches the rest of the modern VW passenger lineup (Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Passat, Atlas on the same hub bore) and the smaller Audi cars (A3). Why Generation and Engine Determine Jetta Fit

On the older Jettas, engine choice changed the bolt pattern. The Mk3 4-cylinder ran 4x100 with M12x1.5 lug bolts. The Mk3 VR6 ran 5x100 with the same M12x1.5 lug bolts. The Mk4 4-cylinder (1999-2005) ran 5x100 with M14x1.5 lug bolts. The Mk4 VR6 (1999-2005) ran 5x100 with mixed M12x1.5 and M14x1.5 thread pitch depending on year, so always confirm the thread on a Mk4 VR6 before ordering bolts. From the Mk5 forward, every engine option uses 5x112 with 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. Trim level (S, SE, SEL, R-Line, GLI) does not change the wheel bolt pattern or hub bore. The GLI is the performance trim from the Mk5 forward with a larger brake package and tighter offset window than the base Jetta but the same 5x112 bolt pattern.

Drivetrain on every modern Jetta is front wheel drive. The Mk4 4Motion all wheel drive variant was sold in some markets but is rare in North America. Square (non-staggered) is the factory and recommended configuration on every Mk5, Mk6, and Mk7 Jetta. The older Mk3 and Mk4 can run an optional staggered setup (wider rear wheel) for visual stance because the rear suspension geometry allows it, but the Mk5 and newer are square only.
