Volkswagen Phaeton Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Volkswagen Phaeton was VW's full-size luxury flagship sedan, sold in the US from 2004 through 2006 before VW pulled the model from the North American market. It was built on the D1 platform shared with the Bentley Continental GT, with the W12 and V8 engine options, four-zone climate control, and a level of interior finish meant to compete directly with the S-Class and the 7 Series. Element Wheels measures the 2004-2006 US-market Phaeton in our active catalog with a 5x112 bolt pattern, 57.1mm hub bore, and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The Phaeton runs the same 5x112 / 57.1mm wheel interface as the rest of the modern VW Group passenger lineup, which means the wheel selection pool is much larger than it looks on a car this rare. The factory configuration is square (non-staggered) and the Element measured window is 17 to 20 inch with an 8 to 8.5 inch width range on every corner.
Find Your Volkswagen Phaeton Year
Every US-market Volkswagen Phaeton (2004 through 2006) uses the same 5x112 bolt pattern, 57.1mm hub bore, and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The W12 and V8 versions share the same wheel interface. Pick your year to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Phaeton.
The Volkswagen Phaeton Bolt Pattern
Every US-market Volkswagen Phaeton uses 5x112 with a 57.1mm hub bore and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The 5x112 / 57.1mm spec is the same passenger-car wheel interface used across the modern VW Group lineup including the Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Passat, Atlas, and the smaller Audi cars. That fact matters more on a Phaeton than on a Passat because the Phaeton was a low-volume flagship and the cross-platform wheel pool is what makes aftermarket selection practical. VW runs lug bolts on the Phaeton, not lug studs and nuts the way most American luxury sedans do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. This makes a hub-centric fit important on the Phaeton, more so than on a stud-and-nut sedan.
The Phaeton was built on the VW Group D1 platform, the same architecture that underpinned the Bentley Continental GT of the same era. The two cars share chassis bones and several mechanical assemblies. They do NOT share the wheel interface. The Phaeton runs the smaller VW passenger 5x112 / 57.1mm spec. The Bentley Continental GT runs a larger hub bore and a different wheel interface. Wheels designed for the Bentley do not bolt to the Phaeton and the reverse is also true. Compare against the rest of the Volkswagen lineup at our Volkswagen wheels and rims hub.
Why Trim and Engine Don't Change Phaeton Fit
Every Volkswagen Phaeton in our catalog uses the same 5x112 bolt pattern, 57.1mm hub bore, and M14x1.5 lug bolts. The W12 and V8 versions sold in the US share the same wheel interface, and trim level does not change the wheel bolt pattern or hub bore on any Phaeton. Drivetrain on the US Phaeton was 4Motion all wheel drive across the lineup. Drivetrain is not a fitment-box axis on most cars and the Phaeton is no exception. The wheel, hub, diameter, and width window do not change between trims. The factory configuration is square (non-staggered) with matching wheel and tire sizes on every corner. Element does not recommend a staggered setup on the Phaeton. The 4Motion all wheel drive system shares torque front to rear and a square setup is the correct configuration for that drivetrain.
Element Wheels Measured Aftermarket Fitment, Volkswagen Phaeton
Publishable factory and wheel specs for the Phaeton in our catalog:
- Volkswagen Phaeton (2004-2006): 5x112 bolt pattern, 57.1mm hub bore, M14x1.5 lug bolts. Element aftermarket diameter range: 17 to 20 inch. Aftermarket width range: 8 to 8.5 inch front and rear. Non-staggered fitment.
Offset windows are controlled by the Phaeton fender opening and brake clearance. For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Phaeton (each listing shows its own offset).
- 2. Browse the Phaeton wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.
Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
How We Confirm Fitment on Volkswagen Phaeton Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including the Volkswagen Phaeton. For the Phaeton that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension and steering on the 4Motion front, brake caliper height across the W12 and V8 brake packages, hub bore confirmation at 57.1mm, lug bolt seat depth on the M14x1.5 thread, and turning radius wheel-to-body clearance at full lock. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
The Phaeton is rare in the US aftermarket. Sales were limited, the model was discontinued after 2006, and most fitment lookup tools do not cover the car with the same depth as a Passat or a Touareg of the same era. The measurement work is what lets us confirm a wheel fits a Phaeton rather than assuming it does because the bolt pattern matches a Passat.
Volkswagen Phaeton Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Volkswagen Phaeton?
5x112 on every US-market Volkswagen Phaeton (2004-2006). The bolt pattern matches the rest of the modern VW Group passenger lineup including the Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Passat, and Atlas. M14x1.5 lug bolts thread directly into the hub.
What is the centerbore on a Volkswagen Phaeton?
57.1mm on every Volkswagen Phaeton in our catalog. A wheel bored to 57.1mm sits hub-centric on the Phaeton. This is the smaller VW Group passenger-car hub bore, the same hub used on the Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Passat, Atlas, and the smaller Audi A3.
Will Bentley Continental GT wheels fit a Phaeton?
No. The Phaeton and the Bentley Continental GT share the VW Group D1 platform but they do NOT share the wheel interface. The Phaeton runs the smaller VW passenger 5x112 / 57.1mm spec. The Bentley Continental GT runs a larger hub bore and a different wheel interface. The two cars look like platform mates on paper, but the wheels do not cross between them. Treat any seller offering a Bentley wheel "for the Phaeton" as a yellow flag.
Will Passat or Touareg wheels fit a Phaeton?
On bolt pattern, the modern Passat (B6 forward) crosses cleanly. Passat and Phaeton both run 5x112 / 57.1mm CB. Offset windows differ slightly because the Phaeton is heavier and longer. The Touareg of the same era ran a different hub interface (5x130 on the early Touareg, 5x112 with a larger 66.6mm hub on later Touareg trims) so Touareg wheels generally do NOT cross to the Phaeton. Always confirm on the specific wheel listing.
What thread pitch does the Phaeton lug bolt use?
M14x1.5 on every Phaeton. VW uses lug bolts that thread directly into the hub, not lug studs and nuts the way most American luxury sedans do. Element ships the correct bolts with every Phaeton wheel order.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Phaeton?
20 inch is the top of our measured window on the Phaeton. 19 to 20 inch is the most common aftermarket choice on this car because the body is large, the factory wheels were already in the 17 to 19 inch range, and a smaller diameter looks lost in the fender opening. The width window holds at 8 to 8.5 inch front and rear across the entire 17 to 20 inch diameter range.
Can I run a staggered setup on a Phaeton?
No, we do not recommend a staggered setup on the Phaeton. The Phaeton runs 4Motion all wheel drive across the lineup and a staggered setup on an all wheel drive car can cause drivetrain stress over time. The factory and Element recommended configuration is square with matching wheel and tire sizes on every corner.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Volkswagen Phaeton?
Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 57.1mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
