The Volkswagen Routan is the one VW in our catalog that does not run a VW wheel interface. The Routan was built from 2009 through 2013 at Chrysler's Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, on the same RT-platform chassis as the Chrysler Town and Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan of that era. It carried VW exterior trim and a VW interior treatment, but the chassis, the suspension, and the wheel interface were all Chrysler. Wheels that fit a Chrysler Town and Country (2008-2016) or a Dodge Grand Caravan (2008-2020) will bolt to a Routan. Wheels that fit a Passat, Tiguan, or Atlas (VW 5x112 / 57.1mm spec) will NOT bolt to a Routan. That detail is the single most important fact on this page.

The Volkswagen Routan Bolt Pattern

Every Volkswagen Routan uses 5x127 with a 71.5mm hub bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts. 5x127 has the imperial nickname 5x5 (127mm = 5 inches). The pattern is the Chrysler full-size standard and it stayed in use across the Town and Country (2008-2016), the Grand Caravan (2008-2020), the Pacifica (2017 and up), and the Routan during its 2009-2013 production run. The Routan does NOT run the VW passenger 5x112 / 57.1mm spec. The two patterns sit about 15mm apart at the stud spacing. They are not "close enough" to share studs, and forcing a VW 5x112 wheel onto a Routan causes uneven seating and stud damage over time.

The Routan is also the one VW in our catalog that uses lug nuts and studs rather than VW-style lug bolts. The studs are pressed into the hub and the nuts thread onto the studs. This is the standard Chrysler installation method on the RT platform. If you are familiar with VW lug bolts from owning a Golf, GTI, Tiguan, Passat, or Atlas, the Routan installation is different. Why the Routan Runs Chrysler Specs, Not VW Specs

The Routan was the product of an agreement between VW and Chrysler in the late 2000s. VW wanted a minivan for the North American market without building a new chassis from scratch. Chrysler had the RT-platform minivan already in production at Windsor and capacity to spare. Chrysler built the Routan on the same line as the Town and Country and the Grand Caravan, then shipped them to VW dealers with a different grille, different headlights, and a VW-branded interior. The chassis, the suspension, the brakes, the hubs, and the wheel interface stayed Chrysler. That is why the Routan does not run the VW 5x112 / 57.1mm spec found on every other modern VW passenger or crossover. It runs the Chrysler RT spec instead. Drivetrain on every Routan is front wheel drive. The square (non-staggered) configuration is factory and the only setup we recommend.
