Smaller diameter wheels with larger sidewall tires are geneally preferred for offroading because it allows for better tire flex and traction on rough terrain. Common sizes are 16 inch, 17 inch, and 18 inch wheels paired with offroad tires such as mud terrain, all terrain, or a hybrid terrain.
Are steel or aluminum alloy wheels better for offroading?
Steel wheels are more durable for offroad conditions, but aluminum are lighter and you will have more designs to choose from. Steel wheels are also generally cheaper than aluminum alloy wheels, but they are not generally considered as stylish.

Beadlock wheels will allow the tire to stay secure to the wheel even under very low tire pressure which is needed for extreme offroading suck as rock climbing. The negative to beadlock wheels is that most of them are not street legal so they should not be used for everyday driving.
