Acura NSX Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Acura NSX is Acura's mid engine supercar and one of the only mid engine supercars Honda has ever built. Two generations produced. The 1st generation NSX ran from 1991 through 2005 with a naturally aspirated V6 mounted behind the cabin, in NA1 form (1991-2001) and the updated NA2 Non Type-R form (2002-2005). The 2nd generation NSX (NC1) ran from 2016 through 2023 with a twin turbo V6 paired to three electric motors as a hybrid powertrain, in base form (2016-2021) and the final Type S form (2022-2023). Honda discontinued the NSX after the 2023 Type S production run. The NSX is a closed historical platform with no current production. The bolt pattern did not stay constant across the two NSX generations. The 1st gen runs 5x114.3 with a 70.1mm hub bore and M12x1.5 lug studs. The 2nd gen moved to 5x120 with the same 70.1mm hub bore and stepped the lug thread up to M14x1.5. Both NSX generations are factory staggered with a wider rear wheel than the front. Find Your Acura NSX Generation

Pick your NSX generation to see wheels and rims that fit. The bolt pattern transition between the 1st gen (5x114.3) and the 2nd gen (5x120) is the first thing to confirm. A wheel built for a 1st gen NA1 NSX will not bolt onto a 2nd gen NC1, and a wheel from a 2nd gen will not bolt onto a 1st gen. The hub bore is 70.1mm on every NSX, but the lug spec also changes between generations (M12x1.5 on the 1st gen, M14x1.5 on the 2nd gen).

The Acura NSX Bolt Pattern Changed Between Generations

The 1st generation NSX (1991-2005) runs 5x114.3 with a 70.1mm hub bore. The 2nd generation NSX (2016-2023) moved to 5x120 with the same 70.1mm hub bore. The 5x114.3 pattern is the most common five lug pattern in the aftermarket and is sometimes called 5x4.5 (114.3mm = 4.5 inches). The 5x120 pattern is the Acura sport spec used on the Integra Type S, the MDX Type S, and the TLX Type S among current Acura performance models. The 70.1mm hub bore is constant across the NSX lineup. A wheel from a 1st gen NSX will not bolt onto a 2nd gen NSX hub, and a wheel from a 2nd gen will not bolt onto a 1st gen. The 6mm difference between 5x114.3 and 5x120 is enough that the wheel will not seat correctly and the lug studs will stress against the wheel face if forced. Confirm the bolt pattern by generation before ordering.

The lug thread also stepped up between generations. The 1st gen NSX uses M12x1.5 lug studs and nuts, the same thread Honda used across most of its passenger car lineup in that era. The 2nd gen NSX uses M14x1.5, the larger thread Honda uses on performance variants and heavier platforms. The 70.1mm centerbore is the larger of the two Honda / Acura hub bores. Most Honda and Acura passenger cars run a 64.1mm hub bore. The NSX runs the larger 70.1mm bore because the supercar hub assembly carries more spindle and bearing mass than a regular Acura passenger car. Why Mid Engine Layout Drives the NSX Staggered Fitment

Both NSX generations are mid engine, with the engine mounted behind the cabin and ahead of the rear axle. The mid engine layout puts the powertrain mass over the rear wheels and gives the NSX its signature handling balance. Honda built both generations as must staggered platforms with a wider rear wheel and a wider rear tire than the front. Our catalog marks both NSX generations as must staggered. The 1st gen runs a 7 to 8 inch front and an 8 to 10 inch rear width in our aftermarket window. The 2nd gen runs a wider 8.5 to 9 inch front and an even wider 11 to 12 inch rear. The 2nd gen staggered split is much larger than the 1st gen because the NC1 carries a wider rear track from the factory and the brake package is significantly bigger. Square setups (same width front and rear) are not supported on the NSX in our fitment catalog on either generation.

The brake package between the two generations is also different. The 1st gen NSX runs a balanced front and rear brake by modern supercar standards, with the front and rear brake at the same size code in our catalog. That balance reflects the lighter curb weight of the 1st gen car and the naturally aspirated V6 power level. The 2nd gen NSX steps the front brake up significantly while the rear stays moderate. The bigger front brake on the 2nd gen reflects the heavier curb weight of the hybrid drivetrain (twin turbo V6 plus three electric motors and the battery pack) and the higher peak power, both of which load the front axle harder under braking. The Type S (2022-2023) shares the same brake package as the base 2nd gen in our catalog.
