Acura TLX Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Acura TLX has run since 2015 across two generations and one bolt-pattern transition. The 1st gen TLX (2015-2020) ran 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 64.1mm hub bore. The 2nd gen TLX (2021 and up) moved to 5x120 with the same 64.1mm hub bore, and added the Type-S performance trim with Brembo brakes on SH-AWD. That 2021 bolt-pattern change is the single most important spec to get right when cross-shopping wheels between an older TLX and the current car. Pick your generation below and the fitment specs follow.

Find Your Acura TLX Generation

Pick your year range to see wheels and rims that fit your specific TLX. The 1st gen (2015-2020) runs 5x114.3 with a 64.1mm hub bore. The 2nd gen (2021 and up) moved to 5x120 with the same 64.1mm hub bore. The 2nd gen also splits into the base TLX and the Type-S, which carries Brembo brakes on SH-AWD.

The Acura TLX Bolt Pattern

The TLX has run two bolt patterns over its history. From 2015 through 2020 the 1st gen ran 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5, since 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches). From 2021 forward the 2nd gen moved to 5x120. Hub bore stays 64.1mm across both generations, but the bolt pattern is the spec that determines whether a wheel will physically bolt to the hub. A 5x114.3 wheel will NOT bolt onto a 2nd gen TLX, and a 5x120 wheel will NOT bolt onto a 1st gen TLX. This is the single most important spec to get right when buying wheels for a TLX, because aftermarket wheels listed for "Acura TLX" without a year filter will default to one pattern or the other.

Worth knowing: 5x114.3 (5x4.5) is the most common 5-lug pattern on Japanese sedans. The 1st gen TLX shares the pattern with most Honda Accord, Civic, and Acura models of the same era. The 2nd gen jump to 5x120 puts the TLX in a smaller family of cars and the wheel selection narrows accordingly. 5x120 is also the BMW E-chassis pattern from E36 through F30, but hub bore (64.1mm on TLX vs 72.56mm on BMW) and offset windows do not align, so BMW wheels do not cross to the TLX.

Why the Generation and Trim Matter

Both TLX generations run square (same width and offset front and rear), which makes wheel buying simpler than on a staggered car. The 1st gen ran 17-20 inch with a 35-45mm offset window. The 2nd gen base TLX kept the same 35-45mm offset window and stepped the wheel range to 18-21 inch. The Type-S sits on the same 35-45mm offset window but adds Brembo front brakes and SH-AWD, which steps the wheel minimum to 19 inch and tightens the wheel face clearance window. The Type-S also accepts up to 21 inch.

Element Wheels TLX measured fitment notes

  • 1st Gen TLX (2015-2020): 17-20 inch, square 7.5-9 width, 35-45mm offset, 5x114.3 (5x4.5) / 64.1mm
  • 2nd Gen TLX Base (2021 and up): 18-21 inch, square 8.5-9.5 width, 35-45mm offset, 5x120 / 64.1mm
  • TLX Type-S with Brembo Brakes (2021 and up): 19-21 inch, square 8.5-9.5 width, 35-45mm offset, 5x120 / 64.1mm

The Type-S Brembo brake package is the tightest clearance window on the TLX lineup. A wheel face that clears the base 2nd gen TLX brake may not clear the Type-S Brembo caliper. We measure both versions separately. If you are on a Type-S, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering. Our team does that on every wheel we recommend. Compare against the rest of the Acura lineup at our Acura wheels and rims hub.

How We Confirm Fitment on Acura TLX Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every TLX chassis. For the TLX that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension, brake caliper height (base or Brembo on the Type-S), hub bore confirmation, lug stud height, and turning clearance. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.

That measurement work is what produced the chassis-specific and trim-specific fitment windows on this page. It is also why every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

Acura TLX Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on an Acura TLX?

It depends on the generation. The 1st gen TLX (2015-2020) uses 5x114.3 (also called 5x4.5) with a 64.1mm hub bore. The 2nd gen TLX (2021 and up) uses 5x120 with the same 64.1mm hub bore. A 5x114.3 wheel does not bolt onto a 2nd gen TLX and a 5x120 wheel does not bolt onto a 1st gen TLX.

1st gen vs 2nd gen TLX: what changes for wheels?

Bolt pattern changes from 5x114.3 to 5x120. Hub bore (64.1mm) and offset window (35-45mm) both stay the same. The 2nd gen also accepts up to 21 inch where the 1st gen tops out at 20 inch. The 2nd gen base TLX runs 8.5-9.5 wheel widths where the 1st gen ran 7.5-9. Wheels do not cross between the two generations because of the bolt-pattern change.

What changes between TLX base and Type-S brakes?

The base 2nd gen TLX runs a standard front brake and accepts 18 inch and up wheels. The Type-S adds Brembo front brakes (and SH-AWD), which steps the wheel minimum to 19 inch and tightens the wheel face clearance window. The published offset window (35-45mm) is the same on both, but the wheel face geometry that clears the base brake may not clear the Brembo caliper. We measure both. If you are on a Type-S, confirm wheel face clearance before ordering.

Are Acura TLX wheels staggered?

No. Both TLX generations run square (same width and offset front and rear). The 1st gen is front-wheel-drive or AWD; the 2nd gen Type-S runs SH-AWD. None of the trims need a staggered setup, and the OEM tire spec assumes square fitment. Aftermarket staggered builds are uncommon on the TLX.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a TLX?

Our measured window tops at 20 inch on the 1st gen TLX and 21 inch on the 2nd gen base and Type-S. Above the measured window, tire sidewall thins enough that ride quality drops sharply and the wheel sits at risk of curb damage. Most 2nd gen customers stop at 19 or 20 inch on the base and 20 or 21 inch on the Type-S.

Do I need hub centric rings on a TLX?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 64.1mm (the TLX hub bore on both generations). If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.

What is the OEM offset and torque spec on an Acura TLX?

Factory offset on a TLX sits in the 35 to 45mm range across both generations. Acura torque spec on TLX lug nuts is 80 lb-ft. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles when installing new wheels. The TLX uses lug nuts on studs (not lug bolts like European cars), which makes wheel installation simpler than on the Audi or BMW.

How do I find wheels for my specific Acura TLX?

Pick your generation above. Each page covers the years we have measured with bolt pattern, offset window, brake package, and fitment specifics. If you are not sure whether you have a 1st gen or 2nd gen TLX, or whether your 2nd gen is a base or Type-S, our team can identify your exact configuration from your VIN.
