The Audi A8 Bolt Pattern and Hub Bore Transition

Every modern A8 uses 5x112 with M14x1.5 lug bolts. The bolt pattern has stayed 5x112 across all four generations from the D2 (1997-2003) through the current D5 (2019 and up). What does change is the centerbore. The D2 (1997-2003) and the D3 (2004-2010) ran a 57.1mm hub bore. The D4 (2011-2018) and the current D5 (2019 and up) moved to a 66.56mm hub bore. The 2011 jump is the spec that catches cross-shoppers. A wheel built for a D3 A8 with a 57.1mm centerbore will NOT sit hub-centric on a D4 or D5. A wheel built for a D4 or D5 with a 66.56mm bore will sit hub-centric on a D3 only with hub rings to fill the gap.

Audi runs lug bolts on its sedans, not studs and nuts the way most American and Asian platforms do. The lug bolt threads directly into the hub, the wheel sits between the head of the bolt and the hub face, and there is no fixed lug stud to align the wheel before tightening. That makes a hub-centric fit more important on the A8 than on a stud-and-nut car. The 5x112 / 66.56mm spec on the D4 and D5 matches the wheel architecture on the C7 and C8 A6, the A7, and the modern Audi sedan family. Why A8 Brake Package and Wheelbase Determine Wheel Fit

The A8 ships in two wheelbase lengths from the D3 generation onward. The standard A8 and the long-wheelbase A8L share the same chassis architecture, the same bolt pattern, the same hub bore, and the same wheel fitment window. The wheelbase difference is in the door and rear seat area, not at the corners. A wheel that fits a D5 A8 of the right offset will fit a D5 A8L of the same model year. Trim level is the variable that does shift fitment on the A8. The factory rotor and caliper package scales up across the generations: the D2 came with the smallest brake of the four, the D3 stepped up a tier, and the D4 and D5 both ship with the largest factory rotor we measure on the A8 platform. The D5 also adds a slightly smaller rear brake tier than the front, which is standard on a performance flagship of this caliber. Quattro all wheel drive is standard on every A8 sold in the US, so drivetrain is not a fitment variable on this car. The D2 (1997-2003) ships with optional staggered fitment from the factory, which means owners may run the same width front and rear or a slightly wider rear depending on the original spec sheet. The D3, D4, and D5 ship square (same wheel and tire size on every corner) and the aftermarket window follows that. Staggered builds on the D3 and newer are a choice, not the factory default.
