The 1st-generation Type 42 ran from 2008 to 2015 with V8 and V10 engines and a 57.1mm hub bore, sharing its mid-engine supercar architecture (MSS) with the Lamborghini Gallardo. The 2nd-generation Type 4S ran from 2017 through 2023, exclusively V10 from launch, with a 66.56mm hub bore on the updated MSS Evo (Type 610) chassis shared with the Lamborghini Huracan. The R8 is not on the Audi MLB platform. The Huracan is the Lamborghini-bodied variant of the same chassis on the 2nd-generation R8. Bolt pattern is 5x112 with M14x1.5 lug bolts across both R8 generations and both brake configurations. The Audi R8 Bolt Pattern (and the Centerbore Split Between Generations)

Every R8 runs 5x112 with M14x1.5 lug bolts. The bolt pattern is identical across the 1st-generation Type 42 (2008-2015) and the 2nd-generation Type 4S (2017-2023), and the bolt pattern itself does not change between steel Brembo and carbon ceramic Brembo configurations. Audi (and the VW Group as a whole) builds the R8 with lug bolts threaded directly into the hub instead of fixed studs with separate nuts. There is no stud to align the wheel before tightening, so the hub-centric fit matters more on an R8 than on a stud-and-nut car.

Centerbore is where the two R8 generations diverge. The Type 42 (2008-2015) uses a 57.1mm hub bore. The Type 4S (2017-2023) moved up to a 66.56mm hub bore. A Type 42 wheel will not hub-center on a Type 4S, and a Type 4S wheel will sit loose on a Type 42 hub without rings to bring the larger bore down to 57.1mm. The Type 4S sharing its 66.56mm bore with the Lamborghini Huracan is part of why so many R8 owners cross-shop Huracan-style aftermarket wheels.

The R8 sits on the Audi/Lamborghini supercar architecture, not on the larger Audi MLB platform. The 1st-generation Type 42 (2008-2015) shares its mid-engine supercar architecture (MSS) with the 1st-generation Lamborghini Gallardo. Why the R8 Brake Option Determines Wheel Face Clearance

Both R8 generations were offered with a steel Brembo brake package (standard on most trims) and a carbon ceramic Brembo brake package (standard on V10 Plus / Performance trims, optional on others depending on model year). The brake configuration does not change the bolt pattern, the centerbore, or the diameter window. It changes the wheel face room behind the caliper. The carbon ceramic caliper face is larger than the steel Brembo and takes more room behind the wheel spokes, so wheels with deeply concave back surfaces need verification against the brake package you actually have. On the front axle the carbon ceramic step-up is one full size larger than the steel package in our brake-size scale on both generations. The front brake is larger than the rear on every R8 in our catalog, which is normal on a performance car of this caliber; the front axle handles the majority of the braking load on a mid-engine supercar and Audi scales the front rotor and caliper accordingly.

Every R8 in our catalog is must-staggered from the factory. The rear axle gets a wider wheel and a wider tire than the front. The R8 is mid-engine but rear-biased in its torque split under power (with Quattro AWD on every R8), and the staggered geometry is part of how Audi engineered the chassis to put the power down. Square setups (same width front and rear) are not supported in our catalog on the R8 because the factory and aftermarket fitment box does not accommodate them on this platform.
