Dodge Viper Aftermarket Wheel Fitment

The Dodge Viper is Chrysler's halo V10 supercar, rear wheel drive, built in three production eras across 22 years. Element Wheels measures fitment on the second-generation (1996-2002), third-generation (2003-2010), and fifth-generation (2013-2017) Viper. Every Viper we cover uses the same unique 6x114.3 bolt pattern with a 71.6mm hub bore, M12x1.5 lug thread, and 6 lugs. The Viper is a must-be-staggered car. The front and rear widths are different by design, with wider rear wheels carrying the V10's torque and narrower fronts (still wide by sports car standards) for steering. Larger front brakes than rear is standard performance car geometry on the Viper. Pick the generation below.

Find Your Dodge Viper Generation

Pick your generation to see wheels and rims that fit your specific Viper. The bolt pattern stays 6x114.3 across every Viper era we measure, but diameter, width, and offset windows shift across generations as Chrysler revised the body and the brake package. Viper production paused 2011-2012 between the third and fifth generations; no Viper was built in those years.

The Dodge Viper Bolt Pattern

Every Dodge Viper from the 1996 second generation through the 2017 fifth generation uses a 6x114.3 bolt pattern with a 71.6mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread. 6 lugs, not 5. This is one of the very few passenger cars on the road that uses a 6-lug pattern. Chrysler chose the 6-lug hub to handle the Viper's V10 torque, the weight transfer of a 2-seat front-engine layout, and the wide rear tire that the platform required from launch.

6x114.3 is also written as 6x4.5 in imperial (114.3mm = 4.5 inch). Same pattern, two naming conventions. Six-lug 114.3 is far more common on midsize trucks than on cars, which is part of what makes the Viper hub unusual. The 71.6mm centerbore is also a Viper-specific spec; it does not cross-reference cleanly with most 6-lug truck applications. Compare across the rest of the Dodge lineup at our Dodge wheels and rims hub.

Generation Differences Across the Dodge Viper

The Viper kept the same 6x114.3 hub geometry across the three generations we measure, but the diameter, width, and offset windows shifted with each redesign. The second generation (1996-2002) ran 17 to 18 inch from the factory and accepts the widest range of older aftermarket styling. The third generation (2003-2010) jumped to 18 to 19 inch factory sizing with a tighter offset window pulled in by the revised body and brake package. The fifth generation (2013-2017) brought the most aggressive factory fitment, with 18 to 19 inch standard and 19 to 20 inch on the ACR trim that came with track-targeted aero, brakes, and tire sizes.

The Viper is a must-be-staggered car on every generation we cover. Square fitment is not an option. The rear wheels are meaningfully wider than the fronts because the V10 drives the rear and the chassis was engineered around a wide rear contact patch. Front brakes are larger than rear on every Viper, which is standard on a performance car of this weight and power. The ACR trim on the third and fifth generations runs a more aggressive brake package than the standard Viper; clearance on the ACR is tighter and the rim style needs to be confirmed against the caliper specifically.

For your exact aftermarket offset, three options:

  • 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Viper (each listing shows its own offset).
  • 2. Browse the Viper wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
  • 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation.

Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.

How We Confirm Fitment on Dodge Viper Wheels

Element Wheels measures fitment on the Viper directly, across the second, third, and fifth generations, and across the ACR trim where it differs from the standard Viper. For the Viper that means hub bore confirmation at 71.6mm, clearance from the wheel to the fender on the wide rear quarters, gap between the back of the wheel and the lower control arm, brake caliper height on the larger front brake assembly (and the ACR's bigger caliper where applicable), lug seat depth, and lug thread confirmation at M12x1.5. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull these from manufacturer spec sheets the way most retailers do.

Dodge Viper Wheels and Rims FAQ

What is the bolt pattern on a Dodge Viper?

Every Dodge Viper from the 1996 second generation through the 2017 fifth generation uses a 6x114.3 bolt pattern with a 71.6mm hub bore and an M12x1.5 lug thread. 6 lugs, not 5. The same 6x114.3 pattern is also written as 6x4.5 in imperial (114.3mm = 4.5 inch). This is the same pattern, just named two ways.

Why does the Viper use 6 lugs instead of 5?

Chrysler chose 6 lugs to handle the Viper's V10 torque output, the weight transfer of a 2-seat front-engine layout, and the wide rear tire that the platform required from launch. The extra lug adds clamping strength and rotational stability under hard launch and hard braking. The Viper is one of very few passenger cars on the road that uses a 6-lug pattern; the closest comparison is the 6-lug midsize truck segment.

Do I have to run a staggered setup on a Dodge Viper?

Yes. Every Viper we cover (1996-2017) is a must-be-staggered car. Square fitment is not an option. The rear wheels are meaningfully wider than the fronts because the V10 drives the rear and the chassis was engineered around a wide rear contact patch. Our front aftermarket width window runs 10 to 11 inch and our rear window runs 12 to 13 inch depending on the generation.

Will midsize truck wheels (Tacoma, Frontier, Ranger) fit a Viper?

Bolt pattern only, and even that needs confirmation. Several midsize trucks (Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger across specific years) use 6x114.3, but their hub bores are different from the Viper's 71.6mm and their offset windows are completely different from a low-slung supercar. Truck wheels are also designed for higher load ratings and ride heights, not Viper-spec brake clearance. The bolt circle will line up, but treat any 6-lug truck wheel as a no-fit on the Viper until a Viper-specific fitment is confirmed.

Are the ACR Viper's brakes different from a standard Viper?

Yes. The ACR trim on the third and fifth generations runs a more aggressive brake package than the standard Viper, with bigger calipers and rotors tuned for track use. Clearance on the ACR is tighter than on the base car of the same generation. Same 6x114.3 hub geometry across both, but the wheel spoke style and inner barrel clearance need to be confirmed against the ACR caliper specifically. If you have an ACR, mention the trim when you contact us and we'll confirm clearance before the order ships.

Why are there no 2011 or 2012 Vipers on the catalog?

Chrysler paused Viper production between the third-generation run (which ended in 2010) and the fifth-generation launch (which started in 2013). No new Viper was built for the 2011 or 2012 model years. Production resumed in 2013 with the fifth generation, then ended again at the end of 2017. If you are restoring a 2011 or 2012 Viper, it does not exist as a production car.

What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Dodge Viper?

20 inch is the top of our measured aftermarket window across every Viper generation. Factory wheel sizing ran 17 to 18 inch on the second generation, 18 to 19 inch on the third generation, and 18 to 19 inch (up to 19 inch on the ACR) on the fifth generation. 19 to 20 inch is the most common Viper aftermarket choice. Going larger than 20 inch on a Viper compromises both ride and brake-clearance margins and is outside our measured fitment box.

Do I need hub centric rings on a Dodge Viper?

Hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than the Viper's 71.6mm factory hub bore. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
