Ford Mustang Aftermarket Wheel Fitment
The Ford Mustang has run continuously since 1964 across seven generations and several bolt pattern transitions. Element Wheels measures the Mustang across all of them. The 1st and 2nd gen Mustangs (1964-1973) shipped in both 4 lug and 5 lug builds depending on year and trim, on a 4x114.3 or 5x114.3 pattern. The Mustang II (1974-1978) and Fox-body (1979-1993) ran 4x108 with a 63.36mm factory hub bore. From 1994 forward (SN95, S197, S550, S650) every Mustang uses 5x114.3 with a 70.5mm factory hub bore. The S550 (2015-2023) and S650 (2024 and up) each ship in multiple brake-package variants that we track separately because caliper height shifts the inner wheel clearance. The Mustang Mach-E is a battery-electric crossover on a different platform (5x108) and lives at its own URL. Find your Mustang below.

The Ford Mustang Bolt Pattern Across Seven Generations
The Mustang went through more bolt pattern transitions in the first thirty years than in the next thirty. The 1st and 2nd gen Mustangs (1964-1973) shipped in both 4 lug and 5 lug builds depending on year, trim, and whether it was a base car or a performance variant; the 4 lug builds ran 4x114.3 and the 5 lug builds ran 5x114.3. From 1974 through 1993, the Mustang II and the Fox-body ran 4x108 with a 63.36mm factory hub bore. From 1994 forward (SN95, S197, S550, S650) every Mustang uses 5x114.3 with a 70.5mm factory hub bore.
5x114.3 is also called 5x4.5 in imperial because 114.3mm equals 4.5 inches exactly. The 5x4.5 nickname refers specifically to 5x114.3 only; it does not apply to 5x115, which is a distinct bolt pattern. The Mustang shares its 5x114.3 dimension with most modern Japanese sedans and crossovers, but hub bore, offset range, and brake clearance are different car by car, so a wheel that fits a Honda will not necessarily fit a Mustang even though the studs line up. Verify hub bore, offset, and brake clearance before crossing wheels between platforms. Compare against the rest of the Ford lineup at our Ford wheels and rims hub.
Why the S550 Brake Package Matters for Wheel Buying
The 2015 S550 is the biggest fitment shift in modern Mustang history. Ford finally moved the Mustang to independent rear suspension after fifty years of solid axle, the GT shipped 19 inch wheels from the factory, and Ford expanded the brake-package menu in a way that changed how the aftermarket has to size wheels. On the S550 we track five distinct brake variants: V6/Eco with 2 piston brakes, Eco/5.0 with 4 piston brakes, 5.0 Brembo with 6 piston brakes, Shelby GT350 / GT350R, and Shelby GT500. Each one accepts a different inner clearance window because the caliper height differs across packages.
The S650 in 2024 carries the same playbook forward with V6/Eco 2 piston, Eco/5.0 4 piston, 5.0 Brembo 6 piston, and Dark Horse 6 piston brake variants. If you do not match the wheel to the brake package, the wheel will either rub the Brembo caliper or sit too far inset to look right. We measure clearance directly on each brake-package variant because the spec sheet alone will not tell you that a 6 piston Brembo caliper sits closer to the wheel face than a 4 piston caliper does.

- S650 (2024 and up): 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 70.5mm factory hub bore. Four brake variants tracked separately: V6/Eco 2 piston, Eco/5.0 4 piston, 5.0 Brembo 6 piston, Dark Horse 6 piston. Factory wheel sizes from 18 to 20 inch depending on trim.
For your exact aftermarket offset (staggered front + rear), three options:
- 1. Use our Year/Make/Model search to see wheels that fit your specific Mustang (each listing shows its own offset and brake-package compatibility).
- 2. Browse the Mustang wheel gallery for real-life builds with size, offset, and tire spec captions.
- 3. Call or chat with our team for a free fitment consultation. We can identify your brake package from your VIN.
How We Confirm Fitment on Ford Mustang Wheels
Element Wheels measures fitment on the platforms we sell wheels for, including every Mustang generation in our catalog. For the Mustang that means clearance from the wheel to the fender, gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension components, brake caliper height across the full brake-package menu (2 piston, 4 piston, 6 piston Brembo, Shelby GT350/GT350R, Shelby GT500, Dark Horse), hub protrusion and bore confirmation on the 70.5mm modern hub and the 63.36mm Fox-body hub, lug seat geometry, and how much room the wheel and tire have when turning. At our fitment facility in Chandler, Arizona, the Element Wheels team measures directly on the physical platforms we support. We don't pull specs from manufacturer sheets the way most retailers do.
That measurement work is why the catalog tracks each S550 and S650 brake variant as a separate fitment row, and why the front-and-rear stagger windows on each variant reflect the inner-clearance the caliper actually allows. Every wheel we recommend is backed by our Fitment Guarantee. If a wheel does not fit, we pick up the wheels and refund 100 percent. No risk to you.
Ford Mustang Wheels and Rims FAQ
What is the bolt pattern on a Ford Mustang?
It depends on the generation. From 1964 to 1973 the Mustang came in both 4 lug (4x114.3) and 5 lug (5x114.3) builds depending on trim. The Mustang II and Fox-body (1974-1993) ran 4x108 with a 63.36mm factory hub bore. From 1994 forward (SN95, S197, S550, S650) every Mustang uses 5x114.3 with a 70.5mm factory hub bore. 5x114.3 is also called 5x4.5 in imperial (114.3mm = 4.5 inches). The Mustang Mach-E EV is a separate platform on 5x108 and has its own URL.
What is the difference between S550 and S650 Mustang wheels?
S550 (2015-2023) and S650 (2024 and up) wheels are mostly cross-compatible because both run 5x114.3 with a 70.5mm factory hub bore. The brake-package menu shifts between them: the S650 introduced the Dark Horse trim and applies the 6 piston Brembo more broadly than the S550. The S550 still includes the Shelby GT350/GT350R and the Shelby GT500 brake variants that the S650 does not. If you are moving wheels from an S550 to an S650, the swap usually works but verify the brake package clearance on both ends.
Does my Mustang have Brembo brakes, and does it matter?
It matters a lot. On the S550 and S650 Mustang, Ford offered multiple brake setups: 2 piston (V6/Eco), 4 piston (Eco/5.0), 6 piston Brembo (5.0 Brembo trim, S650 Dark Horse), and the larger Shelby GT350/GT350R and Shelby GT500 brakes on the S550. Each package has a different caliper height and a different inner clearance window. We track each variant as a separate catalog row because the wheel that clears a 2 piston V6 will not necessarily clear a 6 piston Brembo. If you have Brembo, confirm before ordering. Our team can identify your brake package from your VIN.
Can you run a staggered setup on a Mustang?
Yes. The Mustang is rear wheel drive and from the S197 forward most customers run staggered (wider rear than front). The Shelby GT350 / GT350R and GT500 already ship staggered from the factory and accept wider front widths than the regular GT. The S550 and S650 take a wide range of staggered fitments depending on the brake package. Pick your generation and brake variant above to see the windows that fit your car.
What is the largest wheel I can fit on a Mustang?
The S550 and S650 top out around 22 inch in widths up to 11 inches with the right brake-package fitment. The S197 (2005-2014) tops out around 22 inch with similar widths. SN95 (1994-2004) accepts up to 20 inch. The Fox-body (1979-1993) accepts up to 20 inch with the right offset; most customers stay at 17 or 18. The 1st gen Mustang (1964-1973) accepts up to 20 inch with care on inner clearance and brake-package match.
Do I need hub centric rings on a Mustang?
On 1994 and newer Mustangs (SN95, S197, S550, S650), hub centric rings only when the aftermarket wheel has a centerbore larger than 70.5mm. On the Mustang II and Fox-body (1974-1993), only when the centerbore is larger than 63.36mm. If your fitment needs rings, they'll be included with the order.
What is the factory OEM offset and lug torque spec for a Mustang?
Factory OEM offsets vary by trim. The S550 GT base ships around +35mm front and +44mm rear from the factory. The S550 GT Performance Package ships around +35mm front and +52mm rear. The Shelby GT350 ships around +12mm front and +60mm rear (the rear is unusually high because the factory wheel is wide and the fender is close). Ford lug torque spec for S197, S550, and S650 is 150 lb-ft. Confirm against your owner manual for your exact year and trim. The aftermarket offset window your car accepts depends on the brake package and wheel width; use our Year/Make/Model search for your exact combination.
How do I find wheels for my specific Mustang?
Pick your generation in the grid above and the page will show wheels and rims that fit. Trim and brake package matter heavily on the S550 and S650 because each Brembo, Shelby, or Dark Horse variant has its own clearance window. The leaf page for your year range walks through the trim-specific options. Use our Year/Make/Model search and browse the wheel gallery for real builds. If you are not sure which brake package you have, our team can identify it from your VIN.
