The Porsche Boxster Bolt Pattern

Every Porsche Boxster from the 986 (1996-2004) through the current 718 (2017 and up) uses 5x130 with a 71.5mm hub bore. Lug spec is M14x1.5 across every Boxster generation, and Porsche threads the lug bolts directly into the hub instead of running studs and nuts. If your Boxster has five visible bolts on each wheel and you can see the bolt heads sitting flush with the wheel face, it is 5x130. The pattern, hub bore, and lug spec have stayed constant across the entire Boxster run.

The 5x130 pattern is the Porsche flagship pattern. The same bolt-on architecture runs across the Cayman coupe, the 911 Carrera, the Cayenne SUV, the Panamera sedan, and the Macan Electric (95C, 2024 and up). A 5x130 wheel built for one of those Porsches will bolt to a Boxster hub on the mechanical side. The pre-2024 Macan ICE (95B, 2014-2024) is the exception in the Porsche family: it runs MLB Evo 5x112 / 66.56mm CB and does not share wheels with the 5x130 Porsches. Offset windows and rear width specs differ enough between platforms (and between Boxster generations) that we measure Boxster fitments separately even when the bolt math matches. Why Boxster Generation and Brake Package Drive the Fitment Box

The Boxster is a mid-engine, rear-drive roadster. Engine mass sits ahead of the rear axle and behind the cabin, which gives the Boxster a balanced front-rear weight distribution. That mid-engine layout opens up the fitment options on the older generations: the 986, the 987, and the 981 all support a square or staggered setup (our catalog flags them as fitment_type 3, meaning optional staggered). From the 718 generation forward, Porsche moved to a wider rear track and our catalog locks the 718 into a true staggered fitment with a wider rear wheel than the front. If you are on a 986, 987, or 981, you can run matching widths front to rear or step up the rear. On a 718, plan on a staggered setup from the start.

Brake size shifted with the 718 generation as well. On the 986, 987, and 981 the front and rear brake packages run a matched size in our catalog, which keeps the rear caliper clearance window wide. From the 718 forward, the front brake is larger than the rear (which is normal on a performance car of this caliber, with the front axle handling the majority of the braking load). The 718 Boxster shares its 982 chassis with the 718 Cayman, so the bolt-on architecture, brake packages, and fitment box are mirrored between the two. We measure each generation separately, which is why our catalog separates the 986 from the 987 from the 981 from the 718 even though every Boxster carries the same 5x130 / 71.5mm hub spec.
